CSYFO Flag Football
CSYFO will offer two divisions of flag football - junior flag (grades Kindergarten through 2nd) and senior flag (grades 3rd through 4th). The game play is 7 vs. 7 on a fifty-yard narrowed field. The flag football program is designed to teach our children the rules and fundamentals of the game in a fun and safe manner.
Benefits of Flag Football:
- each child will learn the rules of the game of football in a low-pressure setting
- each child will learn the basic fundamentals of the game of football: blocking, running with the ball, throwing, catching the ball, introductory tackling technique, etc.
- each child will learn how to play all of the positions on the football field
- each child will receive equal amount of playing time and equal opportunity to throw, catch, and run with the ball
- each child will learn how to operate within the structural dynamic that football provides, but without the pressure to win at all costs
- each child will learn how to be a great teammate, build social skills, and make friends
- each child will learn proper tackling techniques in controlled practice settings leading up to the age at which tackling is introduced in games, allowing for a safer introduction to tackling
- each child will learn the body mechanics and physical skills of football much easier and faster without being encumbered by equipment at a very young age
- playing on a smaller field with less players will help develop athleticism and creativity and force all players to be actively involved in the game at all times
- smaller teams (game play is 7 on 7 with 8-10 kids on a team) means more direct player-to-coach interactions and instruction
Our long-term goal is this…
… when our children reach the age to play tackle football, by participating in our flag football program they have learned the fundamentals and rules of the game, improved their athleticism and skill, and have been trained on the proper blocking and tackling techniques in order to compete confidently and safely!
