We couldn’t be more excited about our vision for our new youth football complex on the site of the former Canton South YMCA.  The area is owned and maintained by the Canton Local School District and is made up of nearly 10 acres of land.  Over the past few years, CLSD has graciously been re-sodding and replanting the grass and rolling the surface in order to ensure a safe playing surface for our Wildcats.  The softball field formerly on East-end of the property has been removed and replaced with grass.  The pavilion on the east-end provides great potential for a concession-area and a shelter for our players during inclement weather.  The fields are enclosed by the one-half mile Canton South Rotary Path, giving parents and family members a nice opportunity to exercise while practices and/or games are taking place. All of our grade levels - Kindergarten through 6th grade - will be able to practice at the same time with plenty of space to spare, which will allow our coaches to simultaneously work with multiple grade levels while also minimizing pick-up / drop-off times for parents with multiple kids.  This is a wonderful opportunity to not only build a football complex, but to also resurrect a landmark in the Canton South community!

A few interesting tidbits:

The field was the former site of youth football in Canton Local back in the 1970s and 1980s.  Aptly named “Fireman’s Field,” the field and park was maintained by the Canton Township Fire Department at the time.  

When turf was installed at Brechbuhler Stadium in 2018, thousands of tons of sod were removed from the field.  Where did it go?  The sod was taken across Cleveland Avenue to 45th street and redistributed on the west-end area of our facility.  This resodding process has been instrumental in improving the quality of the playing surface.
