Travel Program
Mission
Toms River FC offers something for every player. The mission of TRFC is to provide our member families and children with a place where they can develop the skill and knowledge to play, as well as respect and enjoy, the world's game of soccer in a safe, fun and challenging environment.
From our Clinic Program through to our nationally competitive Elite Travel teams, our primary goal is player development. TRFC's purpose as an organization is to ensure that each child is placed with players of similar ability and level of commitment, so they can be continually challenged, but never overwhelmed.
Travel:
This program is tailored specifically for players U8 and above who want a more competitive soccer experience. Our travel teams are coached by volunteer parent coaches who have taken the appropriate level coaching certification courses through New Jersey Youth Soccer, and guided by professional training resources provided by NJ SURF.
Travel teams are also required to have at least one session a week with a paid professional trainer, again,
provided by NJ Surf. Trainer fees for travel are not included in the registration part for TRFC.
Travel teams will participate in league play through one of the many travel leagues, based on skill level, competitive ability and commitment level of the team as always, the goal is to place each team in a league and division where they can be challenged but not overwhelmed. All players need to experience some success along with some failure in order to grow and develop. All players need to learn to win with grace, and to lose with dignity.
Travel teams require more player commitment as schedules are often more involved than Recreational teams, and depending on the team, may involve tournament play outside the normal league schedule which is typically a 10 game fall season and 10 game spring season, again depending on the league each team participates in.
All travel team placement requires a tryout for appropriate team placement. TRFC club wide tryouts are held each Spring for the U8-U14 age groups for the following Fall's teams, and tryout announcements are always placed on the homepage of our website. Mid-year tryouts can be scheduled for individual players looking for travel team spots provided a team in the appropriate age group has an open roster spot.
