Hello NK Flag Families,
I would like to welcome everyone to the Fall 2023 NK Flag Dolphins football team. This fall season promises to be a lot of fun with some nice competition as well.
My name is insert name we will be working with your son or daughter to instill some NKFF skills, good sportsmanship, fair play and having fun this season. Listed below are some important announcements that will, hopefully, help you plan for the season ahead.
Practices: We will be holding practice 1 hour prior to each game (or once a week). We do realize that when we have the early games, it can be difficult to get your player to the fields on time. We will be flexible and we totally understand how tight everyone's schedules can be.
Next week: Date We would like to hold a preliminary practice at Quonset lacrosse fields. This practice will run from time. We will have introductions, review some basic plays and begin our preparation for the season. Please let me know if your child CANNOT make it to the practice. Thank you.
First Game: The first game is date once the schedule is released I will let everyone know the time and location of the game.
A few guidelines that we strive to live by while coaching for NKFF:
Playing time will be equally distributed amongst the players, as best we can. Especially during games when we have an odd number of players, it can be difficult to keep playing time completely even throughout a game. Please rest assured that we are doing our best to make certain that every player gets comparably equal time.
Touches on the ball is another metric that is difficult to evenly distribute. Please know that we strive to get every player involved and active in the games.
Communication: We will keep every family up to date on the game schedule and/or any changes in game times or days. Once the schedule is available we will distribute to everyone. Please post it somewhere that is convenient for your family.
Having Fun: The coaches philosophy is to, hopefully, ensure that all players and families have an enjoyable NKFF experience. Win, Lose or Draw- remember, this is a recreational flag football season. In a sporting environment it is easy to get caught up in the heat of the game. If players are observed showing poor sportsmanship to any player/coach/referee the offending player will be spoken to.
Parents: We hope that you all encourage the kids to do well, compete and have fun. We ask that all adults on the sidelines not shout out directions to the players. This will only make our coaching job that much harder.
Referees: Please do not yell at, admonish or engage with any of the referees. The majority of the referees are high school kids working on their volunteer hours. As a former referee who made some doozy bad calls I can tell you, while refereeing, a play may happen directly in front of you but you don't actually "see" it. If a ref makes a bad call, please do not yell at the refs, they are volunteers. If a bad call costs the team a win remember- every team makes the playoffs- and worst case scenario, we lose a flag football playoff game. We will all survive.
Rules of the game: If you are new to NKFF, please be aware that the rules for Flag Football are different from traditional football. There may be times when the referee makes a call that you don't understand because of those different rules. If you have any questions about the rules, I will do my best to answer them for you AFTER the game. Thank you.
Required Gear: Every player is required to wear a mouth guard at all times while on the field. If your player does not have a mouth guard, he or she will not be allowed to play until they get a mouth guard. Cleats are encouraged but are not required. Baseball (metal spike) cleats are not allowed while playing NKFF for safety reasons.
At this point, I believe that is all I have to share with you for now. If anyone has any questions or concerns please call or text me at xxx-xxx-xxxx
I look forward to seeing as many players a possible at practice
Thank you
