INFORMATION - BRIGHTON YOUTH BASEBALL ASSOCIATION COMPETITIVE BASEBALL

Brighton Youth Baseball Association (BYBA) offers a competitive baseball program that plays through Rocky Mountain Junior Baseball League. There are up to three (3) levels of play for each age group. It is structured much like Major League Baseball, in that there is a Majors or Elite which is the top level. There is also AAA, and AA, levels of play.  League play for 8's through 13's begins in Mid April, and typically runs to the end of June.  For teams that engage in tournament play, state playoffs (Triple Crown, CABA, USSSA) follow the end of league play. 14's will start their season on or about March 15 and be done by May 15 so that they may tryout for their respective High School Legion teams.

Below is a brief description of each level and what can be expected for number of games:

ELITE/MAJORS LEAGUE - (formerly Open League)

The top level of play is the Majors / Elite league level.  Teams at this level are comprised of the top competitive kids in that particular age group. There are a significant number of games played at this level. League play is "generally" 12 regular season games, plus league scheduled tournaments and a post-season tournament if they qualify. There are usually several additional tournaments played at this level, typically bringing the number of games to around 40 for a season.  The Majors level requires a significant time and financial commitment. Fundraising is a must, as all tournaments are paid for out of pocket of each individual team.  Majors teams will usually begin off-season workouts around the beginning of November and will continue through the Winter until the season begins the following Spring.

AAA
The AAA level, just a level below the top competitive level of play, is still very competitive. The number of games tends to be slightly less than Elite teams. League play is "generally" 12 regular season games, plus league scheduled tournaments and a post-season tournament if they qualify. They usually play 25 -35 games. Fundraising is a must, as all tournaments are paid for out of pocket of each individual team.  AAA teams will usually begin off-season workouts around the beginning of November and will continue through the Winter until the season begins the following Spring..  A number of our top-level teams in each age group play at AAA.

AA
The AA level is for kids that may not have played competitive baseball before, and are trying to learn what is needed to play competitive baseball. This level of play is still very competitive, but without a heightened level of "pressure" applied towards winning.  The players at the AA level are typically better than "REC" league players, though "REC" league players can play at this level and usually find success. League play is "generally" 12 regular season games, plus league scheduled tournaments and a post-season tournament if they qualify. They play fewer tournaments than Majors or AAA teams. They will typically play close to 20-30 games.

To be placed on a competitive team, new players to the competitive league (including players who played Rec Baseball with BYBA in previous season) who are not part of a "returning" team, or players who wish to play on a different team are required to attend a tryout.

Please be aware that the cost to play on a competitive team is much more than the recreation league.  More details on league fees, etc. will be distributed following tryouts.

Teams at the 8 year old levels will be determined by the BYBA Coaches Committee.  Teams 9-14 will be selected by each team's coaching staff.  More information on team creation can be found on the Competitive Baseball Tab.
