Benfica USA will be changing the set-up of their top level teams at the younger boys' age groups. Beginning in the fall of 2015, the top level U11 & U12 boys' teams will become Benfica USA’s PreAcademy Teams. These teams will mirror the development pathway of the Seacoast United PreAcademy Teams based out of Hampton. As a result, these Benfica PreAcademy teams will train 3 times per week during the Fall & Spring outdoor seasons.
The biggest changes to the current Benfica USA program will be the training environment. Some of the sessions for the U11 and U12 PreAcademy teams will be pool training with the teams combined. Sessions will focus on different aspects with some being weighted towards team training, while others will be position-specific training for the players.
In addition, the teams will follow the US Soccer Development Academy curriculum for that specific age group. There will be freedom for movement within Benfica and Seacoast United rosters on a weekly basis for any players deserving of an opportunity at any given time. This is an exciting development for Benfica USA as we continue to move our program forward to help identify the most talented players in the region and to create an easy transition into the US Soccer Development Academy for 2016.
