WHAT IS RECREATIONAL SOCCER?

The Y: We are a powerful association of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility. We believe that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. That's why, at the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors in 10,000 communities to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.

Our soccer curriculum is focused on Youth Development: Nurturing the potential of every child and teen. We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. That's why, through the Y, millions of youth today are cultivating the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement.

The Recreational Program is a developmental soccer program for all youth players. A system of rostering players to teams must be used to establish a fair and balanced distribution of playing talent among all team participating in the same age group within the league. The use of try-outs, invitations, recruiting or a similar process to roster players to any recreational team on the basis of talent or ability is prohibited. Recreational Soccer is for kids who love the game of soccer but do not want to commit to an Academy and Select Team. Recreation teams are coached by a volunteer.
