Matthew Troy, Executive Director

Matthew joined Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens in October, 2015. He brings nearly a decade of nonprofit management experience with some of this city's most dynamic institutions. He is passionate about education and has dedicated his career to supporting organizations that serve youth.

Prior to joining the Club, Matthew served as the Director of Development for Kids Creative. He improved the organization's fundraising and marketing capacity in support of afterschool and summer programs that serve 1,800 NYC students.

Previously, Matthew led government and community affairs for Lincoln Center, the world's largest performing arts center, during its $1.2B redevelopment. He raised millions for the center's arts education programs and helped bring free performances to audiences citywide.   

Matthew began his career in and around City Hall including work as an advocate for nonprofit organizations. 

He is a lifelong New Yorker with family roots in Astoria that go back more than 30 years.

Andy Rodriguez, Director of Programming

 
Andy joined Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens in May 2016. He brings over fourteen years of experience in Youth Services and the non-profit sector. His experience includes advocacy for displaced families, designing and implementing dynamic youth programs, and program management and administration. He has worked in a variety of environments: schools, community centers, athletic programs and family residences.
 

Andy understands and appreciates the transformative power that youth programs can play in the lives of the young people and families in the neighborhoods they serve.

Mr. Rodriguez has lived in Astoria, NY for over 10 years and is excited to be a part of an organization that   serves the community.

Angie Beteta, Operations Manager


Angie joined the Variety Boys and Girls Club of Queens in October 2015. She recently graduated Brooklyn College with  a Bachelors in Business Administration and Management. Before she joined the club she worked  with kids as a freelance tutor and babysitter.

ALEXANDER BROWN, SITE DIRECTOR @ VBGCQ

Alexander Brown began his journey with the Variety Boys and Girls Club of Queens in 2012, when he volunteered through Ophelia Theater Company to teach the club members Theater Arts. Since 2012, Alexander has been working on many different projects in the club. He has managed our Summer Youth Employment Program for 4 years and was asked to stay on full-time in 2016. Since then he has been working to make a positive impact on the youth and families of the community by building a strong team and an even stronger program. His goal is to expose the kids to all the possible routes their lives can take, and help the club members pursue the path that makes them the happiest. Beginning this school year, Mr. Alex has taken over the role of Club Director for Variety Boys and Girls Club of Queens, and hopes that this position can help bring fulfilling experiences to the amazing kids that will define and create the world of tomorrow.

DIANA FRANCO, SITE DIRECTOR @ IS 10

Diana Franco joined the Variety Boys and Girls Club on August 2017. Diana has been working with children for about 14 years. She worked at the Orange County Library in Florida creating children activities, promoting reading and writing. Diana has always enjoyed working with the youth and has had the privilege of continuing to work with them through Goodwill Industries from 2009 to 2017 for after schools program. She worked her way up from an ESL instructor to Program Director. Her motivation is watching the kids grow up as participants in our program and then coming back to volunteer as a way of giving back to the community. As a mother of three boys, Diana knows the importance of providing a safe and fun place for our children.

GIFT ADEBOYEKU, SITE DIRECTOR @ ACADEMY OF THE CITY

   Gift Adeboyeku joined Variety Boys and Girls Club of Queens in June 2016. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling, which allowed her to provide therapy for students ranging from elementary through high school. Prior to working at the Club, Gift was a Program Coordinator at After-School All Stars for 4 years, where she created after school and summer programs for students in elementary and middle school. Gift has been working with children for over a decade and continues to inspire youth to achieve their goals.

Charles Melone, Athletics Director

Charles Melone III "Coach CP" joined Variety Boys and Girls Club of Queens in April 2016. He brings 10 years of coaching experience along with 20 years experience as a student-athlete. While in High School, Charles played underneath the legendary Bob Hurley at St. Anthony's HS in Jersey City, NJ, then went on to play for Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, NY.

His coaching experiences include a Final Four appearance at the AAU Nationals and many other AAU tournaments wins at all grade levels. He has helped dozens of student-athletes achieve their ultimate goal of receiving a college education while playing basketball. His mission with Variety is to make all of our young men and woman better students, better athletes, and above all, better people.
