Did you know that a portion of the registration fees are used for a variety of purposes such as to purchase new equipment, field maintenance, garbage removal, trophies and to compensate the refs? We strive to keep our children safe. The safety of our children is our #1 goal, so our coaches must complete concussion training every year. Our coaches must also go through a background check in addition to attending a clinic covering issues such as playbooks, rules and position/skill play.

WE HAVE HAD QUESTIONS ABOUT DONATIONS TO THE VAA YOUTH FOOTBALL PROGRAM. IF YOU KNOW OF A BUSINESS, ORGANIZATION OR PRIVATE PARTY THAT WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A MONETARY DONATION TO OUR PROGRAM, PLEASE CONTACT US. IT WOULD MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE YOUTH IN OUR COMMUNITY

The VAA tackle football program is open to both boys and girls in 3rd  through 8th grade. The players in this program learn football fundamentals, teamwork and fair play. Our coaches foster discipline and hard work.

Once a player enters our traveling program, they no longer play against their peers from Apple Valley.  These 7th and 8th graders have a greater level of competitive play playing against surrounding cities in the ERAVE (Eastview, Rosemount, Apple Valley and Eagan) Youth Football League.  After traveling football, many of our players go on to fulfill their childhood dreams by playing on the Apple Valley High School football team. GO EAGLES!

If you need to contact the Commissioner, please send your emails to: [email protected]

NEW THIS YEAR
We are splitting the teams up this year. 3rd graders will play 3rd graders, 4th graders will play 4th graders, etc.
We will again partner with EVAA this season. We are also welcoming the Eagan Youth Athletic Association to our football league this Fall. Our three leagues will be competing against each other for our 3-6 grade levels. There will be games at all three locations. The fields that will be used this season will be posted as the information becomes available. All practices will be held at Hayes Field as in previous years.

There will be a mandatory parent meeting that will be held in July. The date will be posted at a later time.

Equipment pick-up will take place at the VAA Field House, located next to the Apple Valley Community Center at the end of July. All players will need to have a deposit check of $200 on file with VAA prior to receiving equipment. All checks will be held until the end of the season when the equipment is returned. If you fail to return the equipment or return it in an unusable condition, the check will be cashed. No check...No equipment

Gold pants will be available for purchase during equipment hand out/weigh-ins to those players that did not purchase them last season. The cost is $25 (cash or check please, make checks payable to “VAA Football”) FLAG FOOTBALL PLAYERS DO NOT NEED TO COME TO EQUIPMENT HAND OUT.  YOU WILL RECEIVE YOUR JERSEY AND MOUTHGUARD AT PRACTICE (gold pants are not required)

2016 rules will be posted at the bottom of this page as they become available.

IN ADDITION, VAA YOUTH FOOTBALL WILL HAVE LIMITED FUNDS AVAILABLE FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE.
PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD OF THIS NEW POLICY IF YOU KNOW OF FAMILIES IN NEED

Teams will play about 10 regular season games.
Flag football does NOT have playoffs. They will be finished in early October 2016.
There will be playoffs held for the Minor and Major levels in October.
All home games are at Hayes Fields.

Grade level for play is determined by the player's September grade level.
1st and 2nd graders play together in the
flag football league.
3rd and 4th graders play on separate teams, but are both in the Minor Tackle League
5th and 6th graders play on separate teams but are both in the Major Tackle League.
(7
th and 8th graders have a separate league. See Traveling Football for registration)

All tackle football participants must weigh-in before they are assigned to a team. Please note: In the minor league, a player may not carry the football if he/she weighs over 90 pounds. In the major league, a player may not carry the football if he/she weighs over 115 pounds. Any player that exceeds the weight limit is considered a "red striper"

Coaches are selected by the Football Commissioners and Board. Our goal is to select coaches that will be knowledgeable, but also represent our community in a positive way. The Head Coach will interview prospective coaches. Based on that interview and reviews from last season, the coaches will be selected. Each team is allowed one head coach and two assistants. Parents who desire to coach can express interest through the VAA website as part of their online registration. If you desire to coach, please also send an email to [email protected] to let our Board know of your interest.

All players in grades 3-6 and those that will coach will need to attend the 4-day football clinic in August. This clinic will be held at Hayes Field on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday, the clinic will be held at Apple Valley HS, with Head Coach Chad Clendening and his staff leading this day of the training clinic.

Teams playing tackle football are selected through a process based on the child's weight and grade level. Other factors include experience, skill, evaluations from prior year and skills assessment that will take place in during the 4-day clinic. Coaches will receive official rosters within a few days after completion of the clinic.

Major and Minor leagues will begin practices in early August. Flag football will begin practices at the beginning of August. Times and locations of practices are set by the coaching staff. All teams are limited to no more than four practices per week prior to the start of the regular season. During the regular season, only two practices per week are permitted. All contact football players will have completed their 3 non-pad conditioning practices during the 4-day clinic. Therefore, they can begin full pads (weather permitting) once their teams begin practice.

All tackle games (grades 3-6) will have TWO professional officials and TWO student officials for the 2016 season.
