Traveling football is for 7th and 8th graders that are living in and plan on attending Apple Valley High School. All players are accepted to play and we do not cut. There is an evaluation process, but only to gauge the level of talent to evenly place the teams.

This year registration will begin online May 1st, 2016. Registration will close on July 16th for contact football. LATE REGISTRATIONS MAY NOT BE ACCEPTED IF ALL PLAYER SPOTS ARE FILLED, SO BE SURE TO REGISTER EARLY

All tackle football participants must weigh in before they are assigned to a team. Equipment pick up will take place at the VAA Field House next to the Apple Valley Community Center. IF YOU HAVE NOT TURNED IN YOUR JERSEY/EQUIPMENT FROM THE 2015 FOOTBALL SEASON, YOU WILL NOT BE DISTRIBUTED ANY EQUIPMENT IN 2016.

EQUIPMENT - We provide the helmet, shoulder pads, jersey and mouth guard. Each player is responsible for their own cup protector, cleats and gold pants.  THESE GOLD PANTS CAN BE PURCHASED AT EQUIPMENT HAND OUT/WEIGH IN FOR $25 (We accept cash or checks only. Please make checks payable to “VAA Football”)

PLEASE NOTE: IN ADDITION TO THE REGULAR REGISTRATION FEES, THERE WILL BE A $200 PER PLAYER DEPOSIT WHICH WILL BE COLLECTED AT EQUIPMENT HAND-OUT FOR 7th AND 8TH GRADE PLAYERS. THIS CHECK WILL BE HELD BY VAA AND NOT CASHED UNLESS YOUR CHILD’S EQUIPMENT IS NOT TURNED IN AT THE END OF THE SEASON OR THE EQUIPMENT HAS BEEN MISUSED AND DAMAGED. NO CHECK….NO EQUIPMENT.

PLAYER CONDUCT – All players must adhere to a strict rule of conduct while playing in our program. They must be passing all classes and be current on all homework; they must conduct themselves in an adult manner in the community at all times; and they must show good sportsmanship on and off the field. If they do not live by these rules, it is up to the coaches and the commissioners to enforce these rules. Violations could result in the player being benched during games, suspensions or ejection from the program.

ATTENDANCE – Play is in direct proportion to attendance. A player must be at practices in order to play in games. No practice, no game. If you are going to miss a practice or a game, you must let your coach know or it is an unexcused absence.

TEAM SELECTION – All players will be placed on a team. We do not cut players. We do evaluations to make sure that we make the teams as even as possible, no all- star teams. We do not take special requests for coaches or for team placement.

FEES – The cost to play in Traveling football is $175 for the season.

LEAGUE – The league we participate in is the South Suburban Youth Football League. The schools in this league are: Apple Valley, Eastview, Eagan, Rosemount, Lakeville North, Lakeville South and Burnsville. For more info, please go to www.SSYFL.net

SEASON – The season begins late July. The first game will be in August. The season will consist of 8 or 9 regular season games, playoffs and a possible championship game in Lakeville.

PRACTICES – Coaches are in charge of scheduling practices, but we ask them to be sensitive to school events, etc. There is no limit to the number of practices conducted in a week. All practices will be held at Valley Middle School unless other plans have been communicated to the commissioner.

GAMES – All home games will be played at Valley Middle School.

COACHES – Coaches will go through an interview process. Coaches will be selected based on that interview as well as reviews from last season. Coaches must pass a background check, attend concussion training and attend a clinic covering issues such as playbooks, rules, position/skill play. A coach must have patience, be a teacher and leader. Each team is allowed 4 coaches – 1 head coach and 3 assistants. If interested in coaching, please email the commissioner at [email protected] . CONFLICT RESOLUTION – All conflict with players, parents and coaches are to try to be resolved with the coach. If it cannot be resolved at that level, then the commissioner will get involved. If after that point it cannot be resolved, then the VAA board will help in a final resolution.

PARENT CONDUCT – Parents must conduct themselves in a manner that would be calm and be in a good sportsmanship manner. The referees are instructed and have the authority to eject a parent if out of hand during a game. Coaches also have this authority during games and practices. It is up to the individual coach if he wants you to stay during practices. If they allow you to leave your child during a practice, please be on time picking them up as a coach is not allowed to leave until all of the players have been picked up from a game or practice. Remember they are volunteers!!!

We look forward to the 2016 football season!
