Safety is Sturbridge Girls Softball League's top priority. We adhere to the requirements from the Sturbridge Recreation Department and USA Softball, including the CORI check process, USA Softball background check process, and SafeSport Education requirements. Below, you'll find information on how to complete the steps involved in order to volunteer!
Completing the Sturbridge CORI Form - The Sturbridge Recreation department requires all volunteers to pass a CORI check. Please
complete this form and send an e-mail to
[email protected] with your CORI form and
photos of the front and back of your license. If you'd prefer to submit this form to the town directly, please send an e-mail e-mail letting us know once you have dropped the form off to the town directly. This will allow us to track status.
Completing the USA Softball Background Check
- Visit RegisterUSASoftball.com. If you already have an account, you can log in. If not, you will see the option "Think you may already have an account or want to create one?" on the bottom left of the screen. Enter the requested information.
- VERY IMPORTANT -- If it pulls in your child's information instead of yours when you try to create an account, it means that your e-mail address is already associated with a player account. You'll need to use an alternate e-mail address, unfortunately. If you don't have one, you can create one at Gmail or Yahoo or similar. If you need assistance, SGSL can help.
- Select the non-admin role of Coach, and Submit.
- You can submit a request for reimbursement for your $22 background check fee at this link.
Completing the SafeSport Training - Step-by-step instructions on creating a SafeSport account are outlined in the SafeSport_Instructions.pdf document that is attached. SUPER, SUPER important notes below!
- It's easiest to create your account on SafeSport by clicking the link from the SafeSport tab once you're logged into RegisterUSASoftball.com, as outlined starting on Page 2 of the attached PDF.
- When signing up, you MUST use USA Softball as the Name of Sport or Community Organization. It's the last field on the sign-up form. If you don't do this, you will not see the correct training program or there may be a cost associated with it.
- If it's your first time doing SafeSport, you'll be looking for a course called SafeSport Trained - NGB1. It should be free. If you see a cost for that course, it means you likely missed the step above (linking your account to USA Softball). You'll need to submit a Help Desk ticket to SafeSport, asking them to affiliate your account with USA Softball before continuing.
- If you're not a first timer, you'll see a NGB1 Refresher course option. For example, if you were a Storm coach last year, this would likely apply to you. You can choose Year 1, Year 2, or Year 3, depending on which is the first one available to you.
- When done with training, you should return to RegisterUSASoftball.Com to manually sync your account. Instructions on page 12 of the attached SafeSport PDF.
- When done, reply to this e-mail with your USA Softball member ID (which can be found from Home Plate) and your date of birth, and we'll take it from there.
