Your player’s league age is determined by the Little League Baseball® and Little League Softball® Age Charts. The dates for baseball and softball are different, but each determines the division in which your Little Leaguer will play this season. The Age Determination Date for a Little League Baseball player is the actual age of a child on August 31 of the current year. The Age Determination Date for a Little League Softball player is the actual age of a child on December 31 of the previous year. Click here for the Little League Age Calculator.
RSHLL League Ages/Divisions
4 and 5 year olds may only play Tee Ball
6 year olds - play Tee-Ball, but may play Coach Pitch by parent completing the play up/play down form AND if the player has one year of T-Ball experience or is in first grade.
7-8 year olds play Coach Pitch
9-10 year olds play Minors BB/SB
11-12 year olds - play Majors BB/SB
13 - 15 year olds - play Juniors BB/SB
Players of these league ages (9-15) must attend evaluations regardless of what level they register for. After evaluations a player may be placed at a different level of play than what was registered. No player will be cut, and ALL PLAYERS WILL HAVE A TEAM TO PLAY ON. In some cases, the coaches may agree that, for safety concerns, a kiddo would benefit from playing in a different division level. This may be common for a player with little player-pitch experience. The goal is for players to have a positive baseball/softball experience. This may mean playing down in the division below to build their confidence and overall skill level. It is the Little League’s policy to place players on evenly skilled teams in order to create diverse, competitive teams.
Item to note: If you wish for your player to move up or down a division for the current Little League spring season, you will need to complete the play up/play down form.
The RSHLL Board will consider division change requests for the following reasons:
1. Your child has played in their current division for two years.
2. There is perceived or potential for increased injury risk due to the player's level of play.
All other reasons are reviewed on an individual basis and are only granted at the discretion of the Board of Directors.
