Nantucket Soccer Club

What Programs are available for my child?

Nantucket Soccer Club provides both town Travel and Development level soccer.

Travel soccer teams compete in the South Coast Soccer League and will play approximately 8 games during each season on Saturdays, with roughly half at home and half away.

Development soccer is on-island only offered for our younger athletes to learn the game of soccer and to build skills in preparation of playing in a competitive environment.

What age groups can play Travel Soccer

Spring Travel teams are available for grades 2 and up.

2nd graders who have not yet played in a development program are encouraged to do so before signing up for travel soccer, but it is not mandatory.

South Coast Soccer offers competition for teams through grade 12.  However, not all levels are available each year or each season and is determined by the number of teams that register.

Nantucket Soccer Club team availability will be determined the number of players that are interested at each level.  The participation in town soccer tends to fall off as the athletes enter middle and high-school.  If your child wants to play at this age and there isn’t a team available, we encourage you and your child to talk to friends and classmates to try to gather enough players to form a team!

What age groups can play Development Soccer?

Development is available for PK and K (fall) and PK, K, and 1-2 grade in the spring.  1st and 2nd graders wishing to do development in the fall are encouraged to sign up with the Nantucket Boys and Girls Club program.

My Child has never played soccer before.  Can he/she still play?
As long as your child meets the age requirements, we encourage all interested athletes to sign-up to play soccer regardless of prior experience.

Nantucket Soccer Club believes that athletes blossom at varying ages, and the driving mission behind the club is to encourage participation of anyone who wants to.

With that said, we do have to restrict team sizes to reasonable levels for coaching and playing time considerations.

As team numbers fluctuate from year to year and from class to class, we are constantly considering how to determine priority for team selection.   This may be based on players who have played in the past and / or any playing evaluation process that may be enacted.

Do I need to pay for ferry tickets for Travel Soccer?
No, The cost of ferry tickets are covered for athletes as part of the registration fees.
The club also will pay for travel for coaches, assistant coaches and team managers.

Parents wishing to travel with the team may do so at their own cost.

What is the difference between spring and fall season?
The biggest differences are related to the schedule with the South Coast Soccer League.  In the Spring, there will be playoffs at the end of the season, with the top teams eligible to participate in the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions (MTOC).  There also tends to be more teams registered with SCSL in the spring, providing for wider levels of competition.

The fall does not have playoffs.
