Prior to the start of all games, the referee will inspect all players ensuring compliance with all requirements. Players not properly equipped will NOT be allowed to play until properly equipped.
What equipment will my player need?
Soccer equipment includes the following items:
- uniform (jersey/ shorts, and sock)
- soccer cleats *
- shin guards (required)
- an appropriate sized soccer ball
- U6 - Size 3 ball
- U8 - Size 3 ball
- U10 - Size 4 ball
- U12 - Size 4 ball
- U15 - Size 5 ball
water bottle (since it will get warm and players need to replenish fluids)
* Players may desire to have a pair of cleats. Metal cleats are not allowed. Toe cleats are also not allowed (i.e., a shoe with a cleat right at the toe, such as a baseball or football cleat).
** U6 players are not required to wear soccer cleats (cleats will be helpful), but they must wear athletic appropriate shoes.
Shin guards must be completely covered by the socks (i.e., the socks must be worn over the shin guards, NOT under the shin guards). Shin guards are required (mandatory) for both practice and games.
Players are NOT allowed to wear...
Players cannot wear any jewelry, including bracelets, earrings, wrist watches, bobby pins, barrettes, etc. Medical id bracelets are allowed but must be taped down to prevent the potential for injury. Please avoid getting your player's ears pierced prior to the season as the earrings MUST be removed for games and practices. Covering with a band aid is not acceptable.
Players are not allowed to practice or play games with any type of splint or cast. Removal of the cast or splint at the field will result in the player's disqualification in accordance with the FYSA Rules and Regulations.
Where do I get equipment?
Your player will receive a jersey and socks that are expected to be worn for Friday games.
All other gear, including shorts, socks, and shirts for practice, can be purchased at local department stores such as:
- Walmart, Target, TJ Maxx, or Ross
- Local Thrift Stores (great place to look first!)
- The Adidas Outlet in Vero Beach
- Dick's Sporting Goods
- Online on Amazon
My player has outgrown their uniform or cleats. What can I do with them?
Lakewood Park Soccer would love to provide an opportunity to pass along cleats that still have some life in them. If you have a pair of soccer cleats that you would like to donate, please bring them to a practice and give them to Director Sherry Gay or Coach JJ Lain.
