Hubie Smith - Director of Darius Garland YBL




Hubie Smith coached high school and college basketball for 36 years before his retirement in 2018. He was a Varsity head high school basketball coach for 30 years with stops at Bartlett High School, Ensworth, & Brentwood Academy. He was also a Division 1 college assistant coach for 6 years at Belmont University and Lipscomb University. He led his high school teams to 7 State Championships and 11 Regional Championships winning those championships at the 3 different high schools mentioned above and with both boys and girls teams. He coached Darius Garland throughout his high school career at Brentwood Academy and they won 4 consecutive State Championships from 2015-2018. Hubie was inducted into the TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2018.

Pete Froedden



Pete Froedden has been a high school head basketball coach in West & Middle Tennessee, Chicago, and now back here in Nashville for the brand new $150 million Lawson High School in Bellevue. He's also had two stints of coaching Division 1 college basketball at Austin Peay State University and Lipscomb University. During his playing days at Lipscomb University he played for legendary coach Don Meyer. During his college years, his Bison teams won more games than anyone in the history of college basketball... an unheard 147 wins in 4 years. He brings a tremendous amount of basketball experience to the Darius Garland YBL.

Kevin Starks




Kevin Starks is the head varsity coach of the boys’ basketball team at Lipscomb Academy and former head varsity boys’ basketball coach at Dallas Christian School, Fort Worth Christian High School, and Harding Academy in Memphis. He has been an athletic administrator for 24 years. In his current tenure at Lipscomb, the team reached the Elite 8 in 2020-21 and the Final 4 in 2021-22. During his 15 years at Harding Academy, Starks coached his team to eight semi-finals and four state championship games, winning TSSAA State Championships in 2008, 2009 and 2016 and was the State runner-up in 2015. He was awarded TSSAA Coach of the Year in 2016. Starks is co-founder of More Than Basketball Organization, a Christian organization focusing on fundamental training skills.

Spencer Richardson




Spencer Richardson is the founder of All Around Game (AAG) basketball training. AAG basketball training has been around for 18 years and provides skill work for professional athletes, college athletes, & grassroots players. Spencer is also the co-founder of Team Brandan Wright girls AAU program & co-founder of Team Mookie Betts boys AAU program. Spencer is fully committed to helping every athlete improve their skills and love for the game of basketball.
