About Travel

The Lewisboro Travel Baseball program fields teams that are focused on skills development and competitive play.

Making a Travel team is a selective process. Prospective players attend try-outs, at which they are evaluated on a range of baseball skills. After the tryouts, teams are formed from players exhibiting the most developed (or, in some cases, potential) baseball skills. The LBA will notify by email those who make the team, and those players will have 48 hours to decide whether to accept. Those not selected will be encouraged to sign-up for our recreational league in the spring.

Travel baseball is a commitment:

  • Regular attendance at both practices and games is essential.
  • Most teams begin in January with winter indoor practices. Outdoor practice begins as soon as weather conditions allow -- typically in late-March or early April.
  • Spring season games begin in April, and the summer season usually wraps up with playoffs in early August.
  • Teams are limited to 10-12 players to afford each player adequate playing time. But limited rosters also means that no-shows can risk causing a team to forfeit games.

Travel baseball is rewarding and fun:

  • Our Travel baseball program allows kids to play with, and against, the best players in their area and beyond.
  • The longer season, more focused practice sessions, and better equipment / resources allows for more rapid skills development.
  • Being on a Travel team pushes an athlete to work harder to earn his spot, it inspires players to want to be better by exposing them to robust competition from other towns, and it teaches them to deal with adversity and challenges they may not otherwise encounter.

Lewisboro Travel teams participate in the Greater Hudson Valley Baseball League (see: ghvbl.com). Our opponents are travel teams from towns throughout Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Dutchess, and Fairfield, CT counties. Typically, our away games are within a 15-45 min drive. But occasionally, Travel teams may participate at tournaments and/or games that are further afield.

*** Please note: Participation in Lewisboro In-Town recreational program in the spring is MANDATORY for all Travel players. The LBA strives to schedule games and practices to avoid conflicts. However, due to rain-outs or other rescheduling, they can happen from time to time. In that case, a Travel game takes priority.
