Volleyball is currently offered to students in 5th-12th grade. Our regular season will run from roughly August 5 – October 25.
Current Registration Fee: Grade school $150.00 and High school $275.00 (2023 High School registration must be completed by June 30, 2023)
Required Equipment: Each Participant will be required to bring their own knee pads, tennis shoes, water bottle, and appropriate attire.
Practices: Teams will usually practice or play a minimum of 3 days each week. We will refrain from holding practice on game days.
As a program, our desire is to practice once a week as one united program. All coaches and all players will be present. Each player will rotate through drills with each coach. This will offer each player drills tailored to her skill-set while offering opportunities to learn from a variety of coaches. Coaches will also be able to utilize each other's strengths to develop players throughout the program rather than only players on their team.
Each team will have a second practice each week that is specifically with the team they are playing on, with their assigned coach. We will have 3/4 teams: one or two high school teams and two 5th-8th grade school teams. High School is more competitive and a higher level of competition and commitment. Grade School will have one team with a higher level of commitment, more experience, and a higher level of competition for games. The second team will have a lower level of commitment and will focus on more basic skills. We believe that this structure will allow all girls to feel a level of success and pride in their play. Our goal is for each girl to use their God given talents and enjoy the game of volleyball at their level, to develop their abilities in a way that positively impacts them, and to challenge them at the level they are at.
Games: We anticipate the teams will play 10-15 games at locations throughout the greater Milwaukee/S.E. Wisconsin area. Game schedule will be posted on the calendar, as information becomes available.
Tournaments and Travel: We will participate in a number of local tournaments. Members of the high school team may participate in one or more tournaments that require an overnight stay.
Absence from Team Activities: Players are expected to support their team throughout the season at both practices and the games. Absence from practices and games will result in reduced playing time.
High School Competitive Level:
WCHSA has one or two High School team with the level of play partially dependent on the ages of the girls on the team each year. All players will have the same opportunities in practice to work hard, improve their skills, and grow as a team! There are 6 players on the court with distinctly different roles that will be filled based on each player’s unique skills. Playing time in each match at the Varsity level is not guaranteed for each player, but the effort, growth and presence during practices and games is important for team cohesion, as well as an opportunity for the coaches to train up players and use each girl’s unique strengths to maximize team effectiveness on and off the court.
Player Requirements: Character- Players are expected to exhibit Christian behavior and attitudes as they strive to glorify God through their witness both on and off the court.
All Teams: A willingness to learn and improve, a commitment to the team practice and game schedule, and a sound work ethic are a prerequisite for participating.
Parent Requirements: We expect our parents to participate in our organization by striving to act in a Christ-like manner. Additionally, our organization is made up entirely of volunteers (including our coaches). It is critical to our organization’s success that parents give of their time and talents by proactively volunteering in WCHSA planning, programs, coaching, and activities.
Number of Players: Each team will consist of 7 to 10 players. We must have a minimum of 7 players to constitute each viable team.
Grade School Competitive Level Options:
Basic Skills Team (Blue) -This team will focus on learning the basics of volleyball. Passing, setting, serving and spiking. This team will have fewer games and a lower level of commitment. This is a good program if your family is looking to learn volleyball and enjoy time with teammates, but are not ready for the commitment of multiple games/practices each week. This team will have 2 practices per week but will not have games on a weekly basis.
Advanced Skills Team (White) - This team will move beyond the basic skills of volleyball, learning more advanced skills to prepare them for a higher level of competition. This team will have 2 practices a week and often at least one game each week. This team will travel a bit further and will require a commitment to each practice and game. This team is highly dependent on each individual fulfilling a specific role on the team.
Natural progression from basic skills to advanced skills in the grade school program will allow for each girl to participate and learn teamwork in a safe and encouraging environment.
Team Selection:
Individual team assignments will be designated by the coaches after the first few practices. The coaches, working in harmony with the WCHSA board, will make every effort to uphold organizational goal and Christian standards in these determinations.
How we will divide teams:
Parents can choose at time of registration if they would like a lower level of commitment with fewer games.
Volleyball is like a puzzle with each team needing very specific pieces. There are 6 spots on the court with very distinctly different roles. Through the first week of practice coaches will determine which girls can fill the specific roles and which girls are still developing the basic skills. Teams will be separated by roles able to be filled rather than by age.
Commitment to Spiritual and Physical Youth Protection: WCHSA will make every reasonable effort to meet each player’s spiritual and physical needs. Some ways we hope to accomplish this are by:
- Interviewing each coach and requiring that they express a clear profession of faith in Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior
- Requiring at least two board-approved adults at each practice session; for boys, at least one of which will be an adult man — and for girls, at least one of which will be an adult woman
- Encouraging appropriate attitude, behavior, and actions during all practices and games
- Discouraging spectators from attending practice times to reduce player distraction and allow players and coaches to better focus on team objectives.
