11U Advances to Finals

The Lewisboro Lightning 11U team advanced to the finals of the Greater Hudson Valley Baseball League on Sunday, August 4. This was the second time in three seasons that our 11U boys earned a place in Danbury for Championship Weekend!

In Fall 2023, the 11U team won the Division 3 championship in a thrilling come-from-behind, walk-off victory. As is tradition for division champions, the 11U team graduated to Division 2 for the Spring/Summer season.

Despite the stiffer competition, the 11U Lightning didn't miss a beat.  In the Spring, they went 6-3 in the regular season, entering the playoffs as the #6 seed. The team won the first two rounds of the playoffs, eventually falling in the semifinals to the Prospects Elite.

The Jeremy Tubbs-coached team started red hot in the Summer, winning their first 7 games in a row. The Lightning finished the Summer regular season with a 9-2 record to secure the #3 seed within the 24-team division. Their road to the finals tested their determination and grit, as weather and scheduling mishaps resulted in a grueling marathon of baseball.

After cruising past their first-round opponent, the Fairfield FALL 11U Black, with a comfortable, wire-to-wire victory (7-3), the next three games were all delayed, suspended, or postponed due to weather!
  • Quarterfinal (Wed. 7/31-Thur. 8/1): Against the Hudson Valley Renegades, the Lightning fell behind 0-4 before the game was suspended in the top of the 4th. The game resumed the next day, at which point the Lightning shut out the Renegades for the remainder of the game and scored 5 unanswered runs for the comeback victory (5-4).
  • Semifinal (Fri. 8/2-Sun. 8/4): Against the Bulldogs Baseball Academy, the game was scoreless in the 3rd inning when lightning (the meterological kind!) flashed across the sky. This triggered a mandatory 30-min suspension. Rain soon followed, and it became clear that another postponement would be necessary. The game was rescheduled to the following evening, but that was also a wash out. This left only one option: to resume the semi-final game early Sunday morning, and play the final later the same day.  When the action finally resumed, Lewisboro scored 1 run in each of the next two innings, which was enough to prevail after shutting out their opponents (2-0).
  • Final (Sun. 8/4): In the Championship game, the Lewisboro boys faced off against the #1 seed, the Mavericks. After a remarkable, but exhausting run of games, the Lightning couldn't keep up with the Mavericks, falling 1-7.
Despite coming up just short, the Summer season was a remarkable achievement for the team. There were not enough teams to field a Division 1 for the 11U age group. This meant that our Lightning 11U team was competing in the top 11U division in the Greater Hudson Valley. Across all 11U divisions, there were 95 teams. Lewisboro finished as the second-best.
