Concussion Agreement

Posted Nov 28, 2018

Whether you are a coach, player, or parent you need to understand how to keep players safe in our sport. Sports-related concussions – in all sports – cannot be eliminated, but we can all do our part to minimize the risk. Help us keep our players safe! The information presented on this page comes from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

A concussion is a brain injury, caused by a blow, bump or jolt to the head that can have serious consequences. It can occur in any sport or recreational activity.

On June 16, 2011, North Carolina governor Bev Perdue signed the Gfeller-Waller Concussion Awareness Act, adding the state to the list of twenty-four states* that have enacted strong youth sports concussion safety laws since the first such law went into effect in Washington state in May 2009.

Concussion Information for Parents

To help ensure the health and safety of young athletes, CDC developed the "HEADS UP Concussion in Youth Sports" initiative to offer information about  concussions to coaches, parents, and athletes involved in youth sports. The HEADS UP initiative provides important information on preventing, recognizing, and responding to a concussion. Please review and/or print out the following information for parents regarding concussions .
