NFL Polar Youth Flag Football League

Arlington County Department of Parks & Recreation is committed to keeping kids safe, happy, and healthy during the winter months. Thanks to its growing popularity and success in keeping athletes and fans safe, we are excited to launch a Polar Youth Sports League for 2021. This new 5-week NFL Flag season starts on January 9th and concludes February 6th.

Season Details:

  • 4-week regular season
  • 1-weekend Playoffs
  • Games only (Weekends) No practices or makeup games.
  • Teams will compete in smaller pods within an age division.
  • No Jerseys.  Players are encouraged to wear last season’s jersey.  If they did not play last season, a dark or light colored shirt is all that is needed!
  • Each team is required to have volunteer coach and a designated COVID-Coach.
  • Fans must be limited to 2 per player. Please see Section 13 of  VA Governors Executive Order 72
  • The fee for this season is $35.

Arlington NFL Youth Flag Football is part of the National Football League’s official flag football program that allows boys and girls to play non-contact flag football in a fast paced and exciting environment.  Arlington is home to one of the largest programs in the nation. This program is open to Arlington County residents only.

Games

Games will be held on Saturdays and/or Sundays beginning with the January 8th & 9th weekend. The season will conclude on Sunday, February 7th. Games will be held on the MLK holiday weekend.

Team games will take place at Wakefield H.S., and Washington-Liberty H.S.

Equipment

  • NFL youth blue football (Wilson Pee Wee/K2) is used for grades 1-5.
  • NFL youth brown football (Wilson Junior/TDY) is used for grades 5-12.
  • Mouth guards are required.
  • Cleats are optional (metal cleats are prohibited).
  • Flags will only be distributed to new registrants that did not participate in the 2020 Fall Season.
  • Footballs will only be distributed to new Head Coaches that did not coach during the 2020 Fall Season.
  • Jerseys will not be distributed for the 2021 Polar Season

Register online below beginning November 23rd at 12:00am. The registration fee is $35.00. Registration Closes 11:59pm EST on December 13th. Payment can be made by credit/debit card online. You may also mail checks to:

Residency

All players must be Arlington County residents as of the date of their first game. 'Resident' is defined as:

  • A person or family living within the geographical boundaries of Arlington County, Virginia.
  • A person or family whose property is bisected by the county boundary and that of an adjacent jurisdiction, such that real estate taxes are paid to Arlington County.
  • A person or family owning property and paying real estate taxes in Arlington County even though that person or family resides outside the county boundary.
  • Current employees of the Arlington County Board or the Arlington County School Board, and their immediate family members.
  • Nonresident, full-time students who attend a public or private school in Arlington County.
