Hood River Whitecaps Q & A

My child has registered, what's next?

You will be contacted directly by your team's head coach to schedule a parent meeting that will cover the following:

-Team practice dates and times
-Player and parent expectations
-Uniform sizing information
-Tournament schedule

What are the Hood River Whitecaps?

We are a high quality, nearby, low logistics baseball academy for Columbia Gorge

players ages 9-14 from January through July.

Why were the Whitecaps created?

The Hood River Whitecaps believe there should be a simpler option for players

and parents who want to extend their baseball season. The Whitecaps’ goal is to

keep baseball local, inexpensive and streamlined for parents and players in the

Gorge.

What aren’t the Whitecaps?

We are not a replacement of Little League, Babe Ruth or JBO

baseball. The Whitecaps are a complement to those leagues. No scheduling

overlaps. No logistical snags. Many Whitecaps board members also represent

Little League, Babe Ruth and JBO, and White Salmon baseball leagues to ensure

a symbiotic dynamic.

Who is eligible to play?

We welcome every player in the Gorge area age 9-14.

What if I don’t live in the Hood River Valley?

The Whitecaps are based in Hood River, but we welcome players from around the

Gorge. Bottom line: If there’s a desire to be a Whitecap, please contact us at [email protected].

Baseball in February? What if there’s snow?

We have the luxury of using the HRVHS indoor baseball facility, the HRVHS turf field, and the HRCSD covered areas at all elementary schools.

What about holidays and Spring Break?

We offer a two week break over Christmas and communication over Spring Break expectations will be communicated on a team by team basis.

Is year round baseball too much for young players?

Our goal is to foster a love for the game, and allow ops for kids to be kids. Just two

practices a week. No more than two tournaments per month for 10 and under

teams.

What do registration fees cover?

Coaching, uniforms, tournament fees.

What isn’t covered by registration fees?

We do not cover transportation or lodging for tournaments.

What if registration fees are not affordable?

Scholarships are available. Reach out to us at [email protected].
