Frequently Asked Questions for Flag Football


 Q:  When are games played?

All games will be played on Sunday afternoons.  Games times are 12:00pm - 6:00pm.  Playing games on Sunday afternoon will help to avoid conflicts with other sports.


Q:  How many days a week are practices held?

Teams may practice twice a week until the first game of the season.  After that, teams may only practice once a week.


Q:  Can my child play Flag Football if they are playing other sports?

YES!  We are scheduling practices and games to avoid conflicts with other sports.


Q:  What is the cut off date for determining player placement according to age?

For the Spring Season, players are aligned in Divisions according to their age as of May 31st of the year in which the season is played.

Examples:

 If a player is 5-6 years of age on May 31st, then that player will be eligible to play in the 6U year old Division.
 If a player is 7-8 years of age on May 31st, then that player will be eligible to play in the 8U year old Division.
 If a player is 9-10 years of age on May 31st, then that player will be eligible to play in the 10U year old Division.
 If a player is 11-13 years of age on May 31st, then that player will be eligible to play in the 13U year old Division.


For the Fall Season, players are aligned in Divisions according to their age as of October 31st of the year in which the season is played.

Examples:

 

 If a player is 5-6 years of age on October 31st, then that player will be eligible to play in the 6U year old Division.
 If a player is 7-8 years of age on October 31st, then that player will be eligible to play in the 8U year old Division.
 If a player is 9-10 years of age on October 31st, then that player will be eligible to play in the 10U year old Division.
 If a player is 11-13 years of age on October 31st, then that player will be eligible to play in the 13U year old Division.



Q:  What equipment is included in the fees for flag football?

The registration fee for the season includes your game jersey, game shorts, game socks.  Flag belt with flags will be provided for use during the season.


Q:  What size footballs do the teams use?

Our teams will use the following size footballs:

     • 6u Division :  K2 (peewee) Size
     • 8u Division :  K2 (peewee) Size
     • 10u Division :  TDJ (junior) Size
     • 13u Division :  TDJ (junior) Size



Q:  What equipment do we need to purchase?

Players will need football cleats and a strapless mouth guard. 


Q:  How will I know if practice/games are cancelled due to rain?

After teams have been selected, all communication concerning practices will come directly from your coaching staff.  In general, we do not cancel practices due to light rain. If it is pouring or if lightning is in the area, we will not practice. Your coach will have the final say of your practice schedule.


Q:  How many players play at one time?

Games are 6 v 6 for the 8U, 10, & 13U divisions and 5 v 5 for the 6U division.


Q:  How are coaches certified?

Coaches are required to complete a Coaches Training Clinic (online course) provided by USA Football to be a certified Spring Hill Sports coach.
