Flat Rock Area Little League

FRALL

Flat Rock Area Little League is a competitive Baseball and Softball program, that also focuses on player development and team work. Our program is for players between the ages of 4 - 18 years old.

Registration and Fundraising begin in January and February each year.  Team tryouts (no cuts, just skills evaluation) and draft are usually held at the end of February.

FRALL has a main season that runs from Late April until Late June (sometimes into July for All-Stars and tournaments).  Practices begin in March/April each year.

General guideline for age groups:

Tee-Ball: league age 4 (combined boys and girls)
Our earliest and youngest age division.  This division is designed for light exercise, an introduction to sports and being on a team, and purely for fun and development. We do not keep score, there are no umpires.  We try to have a small number of kids (5-7) on each team, allowing the kids more opportunities and it's easier for the coaches to manage.  Every player bats every inning.  Safety coated balls are used, coaches are on the field at all times.

Coach Pitch: league age 5-6 (combined boys and girls)
This age division is really an extension of Tee-ball.  Coaches will typically pitch from one knee (sometimes underhanded) to their own players.  After a few swings, if batters are unsuccessful, the coaches will bring out a tee and allow the players to hit off a tee.  We still prefer smaller team sizes (7-9), as outfielders are rarely used at this age.  Every player bats every inning, safety coated balls are used and coaches are on the field at all times.

Farm: league age 7-8 (separate baseball and softball)
This is our first age division that we utilize umpires and keep score.  Players will be taught more fundamentals.  Players will now do the pitching and catching (full catchers gear provided).  Pitching distance is 35 feet.  In some instances, if pitchers are struggling, coaches can come in and pitch to their own players.  Pitch counts (innings pitched for softball) are strictly enforced.  There is a 5 run limit per inning and game time limit, players can steal bases except for home.  Baseball uses a safety coated ball, softball uses an 11" softball.  One coach (and two base coaches) is allowed to be on the field at all times.  Players in this division can be eligible for a district operated, postseason tournament.

Minors: league age 9-10 (separate baseball and softball)
This age division is a more competitive version of the Farm division.  Players will be still be taught beginning fundaments, but also introduced to intermediate concepts.  Baseball will pitch from 46 feet, softball from 35 feet.  Pitch counts (innings pitched for softball) are strictly enforced. There is a 5 run limit per inning and game time limit, players can steal all bases including home.  Baseball uses a regulation hardball, softball uses an 11" softball.  Coaches are not permitted on the field (except for base coaches).  Players in this division can be eligible for All-stars and a district and state operated postseason tournament.

Majors: league age 11-12 (separate baseball and softball)
This age division is a more competitive version of the Minors division.  Players will be taught beginning, intermediate and advanced fundamentals.  Baseball will pitch from 46 feet, softball will pitch from 40 feet.  Pitch counts (innings pitched for softball) are strictly enforced. There is no run limit per inning and no game time limit (mercy rules will apply).  Players can steal all bases including home.  Baseball uses a regulation hardball, softball uses a 12" softball.  Coaches are not permitted on the field (except for base coaches, players can base coach with proper safety equipment).  Players in this division can be eligible for All-stars and a district and state operated postseason tournament.  Teams in this division can also be eligible for the District 5 TOC (Tournament of Champions), which is a tournament of all the 1st place teams in each District 5 league.

*Juniors: league age 13-14 (separate baseball and softball)
Begins late May/Early June (not part of the traditional FRALL season)
This age division is a more competitive version of the Majors division.  Players should have some playing experience, intermediate and advanced fundamentals will be taught.  Baseball will pitch from 60'6" feet with 90 foot basepaths, softball will pitch from 43 feet.

*Seniors: league age 15+ (separate baseball and softball)
Begins late May/Early June (not part of the traditional FRALL season)
This age division is a more competitive version of the Majors division.  Players should have some playing experience, intermediate and advanced fundamentals will be taught.  Baseball will pitch from 60'6" feet with 90 foot basepaths, softball will pitch from 43 feet.

League age determination is done via the official age chart, and does not always correlate to child's age at the time of the sign-ups or opening day.  Boys and girls also have separate age determination charts.

*Juniors and Seniors seasons start in late May-Early June, and is designed to accommodate and work in harmony with those that play Middle School or High School baseball or softball.

With the exception of Tee-ball and Coach-Pitch, many FRALL teams inter-league with neighboring cities and communities, including Huron Township, Brownstown Township, Romulus, Taylor, Melvindale, Lincoln Park and others.

FRALL also hosts a Fall Ball Season, typically lasting 6 weeks in September and October.
