Masters Rowing

Double at Sunset, July 2025

Masters Rowing is a great way to stay in shape, but more importantly it's a place to find community and get some fresh air! Masters rowing encompasses all athletes twenty-one years or older, and races include age-based handicaps to keep crews competitive. Here at Nashville Rowing Club, we run learn-to-row sessions for those looking to get into the sport for the first time, a development program for those who are still building their fitness and confidence on the water, a competitive team for those looking to train at a higher level, and a morning sculling option for experienced scullers who love to watch the sun rise over the water. For questions about our programming, the best fit for you, or rowing in general, please reach out to Coach Lucas at [email protected]!

Evening Programs

2026 Spring Masters Programming

Our spring season will run from March 9th through July 20th, and will include three regattas. Practices run from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, and from 7:00 - 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, out of the Hamilton Creek Sailboat Marina. The spring season is our championship season. Racing will be more intense, and we ask that our competitive athletes attend as many practices and races as possible to ensure they have the necessary skill, fitness, and experience to succeed later in the season.

Spring programming costs include:
  • Registration costs for 2 entries at the first three regattas (see "Regatta Entries" for more details)
  • Practice costs such as equipment upkeep
  • Coaching payroll

Regatta Schedule:
Percy Priest Sprints - March 28th - Hamilton Creek Recreation Area, Nashville, TN
  • A joint effort between NRC and Vanderbilt Rowing. Expect to spend some time racing and some time volunteering.

Dogwood Masters Classic - May 30th - Oak Ridge Rowing Association, Oak Ridge, TN

Indy Summer Sprints - June 20th - Eagle Creek Park, Indianapolis, IN

RowFest National Championships - July 16th through 19th - Ford Lake Park, Ypsilanti, MI
  • RowFest is our national championship opportunity. Only committed competitors will be asked to travel to and compete at the regatta. As such, the costs for RowFest ARE NOT INCLUDED in your spring registration costs. Athletes who do compete will be asked to pay for their entries as a separate charge.

Regatta Entries:
Athletes will be allowed to select one "preferred boat" for the season, and the coaches will make their best effort to ensure that those boats are raced at each regatta. Your other entry for each regatta will be made at the coaches' discretion in order to ensure everyone has the opportunity to race their preferred boats. These "coaches' choice" entries may not be consistent from regatta to regatta. Athletes who desire to be entered in more than two events at a given will be invoiced for each entry beyond their "preferred boat" and "coaches choice" entries.

Divisions:
Competitive Team:
  • For experienced rowers and ergers who are looking for a challenge
  • Focused on training for high levels of fitness and readiness to compete in the spring.
  • Technical development will focus on the finer points of the rowing stroke
  • Will race and compete in all Events
Development Team:
  • For beginners, those in their first year of rowing, or those who want a more relaxed training environment
  • Focused on training for basic strength and fitness
  • Technical development will focus on building strong fundamentals
  • May compete in our club-hosted events
