GAME RULES
Coaches referring the Pre-K/K games. Ideally teams will have 2-3 coaches and one coach from each team will be on the field to referee (not coach) and one or more coaches on the sideline to coordinate substitutions and handle the players on the sidelines.
- Games are 4 vs 4
- Games are around 45-50 minutes
- There are four 8-minute quarters.
- Between quarters teams can take a 3-5 minute break
- Halftime is 5 minutes
- Games are 4 vs 4 or 5 v 5 based on team size
- No goalies. The goal is there to acclimate the players to real games while learning basic skills
- Substitutions are are around every 4 minutes (coach referees can call subs when ball is out of play)
- Players will play on the same side of the field for the entirety of the game (they don't switch sides at half until travel)
- Coach referee will blow whistle when ball goes out of bounds, at this age you can be lenient and let the kids keep playing if it's a little out of bounds, use your discretion
- Out of bounds on the sidelines of the field: Introduce doing throw-ins. Try to rotate who throws-in so everyone has a chance to practice.
- Out of bounds on Goal line: If the attacking team kicks the ball out of bounds then the defending team gets to kick the ball from the line the goal is on. If the defending team kicks it out of bounds then the attacking team kicks a corner kick. Again, try to rotate who gets the ball so everyone has a chance to practice.
