Coaching FAQ
How do I sign up to be a coach?
Typically, you sign up to coach when you register your child. If you did not do that during the registration process, you can always sign up through your sports connect account under the volunteer tab.
Do I need soccer experience to coach?
No, you do not need to be a former soccer player to be a coach. We have a lot of coaching materials for you to reference. CSI will also reimburse for soccer coaching clinics that you choose to attend.
What is required as a coach?
All coaches are required by CJSA and Federal laws to complete concussion training, SafeSport training, and pass a background check. All requirements must be completed before the first team practice.
What is expected of me as a coach?
All coaches are expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate way and abide by all the rules presented by CSI and CJSA. All coaches are expected to plan a weekly training session and attend weekly games (U8 and above)
Can I choose an assistant coach?
Yes! We encourage all coaches to find an assistant coach. You can also choose to volunteer as an assistant coach. Assistant coaches are also expected to complete the coaching requirements and assist the head coach as needed.

Practices are generally held once a week. The time and date are at the discretion of the coaches.
How many games are played?
U8 and above generally play 8 games on Saturdays or Sundays with the occasional makeup game on a weeknight.

The only players guaranteed to be on your roster are your child and your assistant’s child if you have an assistant. Teams will be chosen by the CSI board to make the teams as fair as possible.
Who makes the game schedule?
The head coach will need to attend the district scheduling meeting held at star hill athletic center in Tolland.
Does CSI provide any additional support to volunteer Coaches?
