MASHPEE YOUTH SOCCER

Travel Soccer FAQs

Who can play Mashpee Travel Soccer?
In the Fall, Mashpee Youth Soccer (MYS) travel soccer is open to children in grades 3-12 from Mashpee (and surrounding towns, with a waiver) who want to improve their soccer skills through weekly practices and competitive travel games. The spring is our main competitive season and is open to children in grades 2-12 from Mashpee (and surrounding towns, with a waiver). Prior soccer experience is encouraged.

How much does it cost to participate?
The 2024-2025 cost to play is $225 plus the cost of a uniform (~$50).  Financial assistance is available. We are committed to making the club affordable to all players.  No player will be excluded from participation due to financial constraints.

How are teams created?
Teams are based on school grade level (e.g., Grade 4 Boys, Grade 6 Girls).  MYS plays in the South Coast Soccer League, which has two divisions D1 and D2.  Depending on the number of players for a specific grade level, MYS will either have a first and a second division team, or two second division teams separated equally.  Player evaluations may be used to decide whether a player is assigned to the first or second division team, or to separate equally by skill-level. Both divisions are competitive.  MYS does not cut players that register to play soccer with us, unless there are not enough players to field a team.

How many players are on a team?
Grades 3-4 play 7v7 (including the goalkeeper), Grades 5-6 play 9v9, Grade 7 and older play 11v11.  Recommended roster sizes set by the league are 13 players for Grades 3-4, 16 players for Grades 5-6, and a maximum of 22 players for Grades 7 and older.  Ultimately, roster size changes depend on how many players are registered for a specific grade and a specific season.  The club may combine grade levels (e.g. Grades 7-8) to allow for an adequate roster size.

When are practices and games?
Practices generally are offered one or two evenings a week during the spring and fall seasons.  Practice nights are generally up to individual coaches and are subject to field availability.  Games are played on Saturday afternoons (after 12pm), with rare exceptions due to weather and field conditions.  Game days are dictated by the South Coast Soccer League (for example: Spring Game Days | South Coast Soccer League)

Where do we practice?
We use practice fields at Heritage Park in Mashpee, located on Rt. 130.  Field availability changes between seasons.

Where do we play?
MYS is a member of the South Coast Soccer League (South Coast Soccer League), which is comprised of teams from Barnstable, Berkeley, Bourne, Dartmouth, Falmouth, Fall River, Freetown-Lakeville, Fairhaven, Martha’s Vineyard, Mashpee, Nantucket, Norton, Harwich, Sandwich, Swansea, Taunton, Wareham and Westport.  Our travel games are at fields in these locations.  Each season, a team will play a subset of these teams.

How many games do we play?
Teams typically play six games in Fall and eight games in Spring (main season),

When does the spring season start/end?
The spring season runs from late March/early April to June.  The fall season runs from early September, to late October.

Who are the MYS coaches?
Coaches are volunteers, often parents, who graciously devote their time and energy to their team.  All coaches are CORI’d and undergo mandatory training (e.g. in concussion protocols).

How can I, as a parent or guardian, get involved?
We are always looking for coaches, new board members, fundraisers, people to line the fields etc. Please reach out to [email protected] to volunteer.
