FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Uniform: NECONN will provide a micros shirt for all players to be used in fall and spring. It is not mandatory that NECONN shirts be worn to your session.
Weather: If it is light rain, we will continue to play. The Micros Coordinator will check the forecast and the fields early to make the decision to cancel a morning session by 7:00AM Saturday or a match night by 4:00PM on Friday. Please look for an email in case of inclement weather.
Curriculum: US Youth Soccer stresses that U5 & U6 soccer is about fun, dribbling, & motor development. Our sessions are designed to follow US Soccer’s Player Development Framework. Activities and Sessions are built using the MOJO sports app, Mass Youth Soccer Session Plans and The Coaching Manual.
Each session kicks off in a large group setting with the same dribbling warm-up to establish a familiar structure and incorporating simple weekly progressions such as adding speed changes, different foot surfaces, turns, or fun commands. The goal is to gradually build ball mastery and coordination while keeping every child actively touching the ball right away.
After the warm-up, coaches actively join the group for several short, high-energy fun activities—such as Sharks and Minnows, Freeze Monster, or Cone knock-down games—to reinforce dribbling, movement, and awareness in a playful way.
Players then transition to small-sided fields for 1v1 challenges (to encourage individual bravery and attacking) and are typically followed by 3v3 or 4v4 scrimmages (on compact pitches with small goals, frequent rotations, and emphasis on effort and fun over results), ensuring maximum touches and engagement.
New this spring for U6 2020 birthdays only: For the last several weeks of the season, players will be divided into consistent teams for practice and more formal games. In addition to our player/coaches, we are looking for parents to volunteer at these sessions. Please reach out to [email protected] if you are interested in coaching.
