TSLL History of Champions, By the Numbers *(as of 2001)As another baseball season comes and goes, Teaneck Southern LL continued working hard and progressing as a league.
Here's what we did:
12yr Old All-Stars won the District 6 Title and went on to make it all the way through the Section 2 Tournament, before falling in the Section Championship game.
10yr. Old All-Stars won the District 6 Title, then the Section 2 Title, and went on to the State Championships. This team met with a lot of adversity this season but hung together through it all to still excel.
*The 12s were also runners-up in the Paramus Tournament and went undefeated in the AABC before bowing out in the playoffs, due to other commitments. *This particular team, aka, "The Boyz," finish up their LL careers, winning 7 championships in 5 seasons, as All-Stars.
Besides these individual team accomplishments, TSLL was the only program in NJ to place both all-star teams collectively near the top of these LL State Tournaments, of over 300 LLs in the State. Our 12s were in the "Elite 8," and the 10s made it to the Final 4" in all of New Jersey. In this year, no other LL in NJ did it any better, across the board.

TSLL History of Champions, By the Numbers (as of 2000)As we proceed through this New Millenium in this year 2000, Teaneck Southern Little League continues to have much to be proud of. With the fun being had by all in Little League play, it eventually culminates into a pursuit of excellence. All-Star teams are assembled to showcase the league's best and hopefully to win championships, any which way we can. TSLL has won its share of honors in this way over the many years and still continues to date. Here's what we've done most recently:
*12s - Won the LL District 6 Championship, and won the Cheesequake Memorial Day Tournament, in Old Bridge, NJ.
*11s - Won the prestigious Triple Crown Tournament in Long Island, NY.
*9s - Won the Paramus Tournament World Series, B-div., Championship, won the Cheesequake Memorial Day Tournament, in Old Bridge, NJ., and won the Emerson 10U Fall Ball Tournament.
*7/8s - Won the 1st Annual Litlle League Rookies Memorial Day Tournament in Teaneck, NJ.

TSLL History of Champions, By the Numbers (as of 1999)As we go into the new millennium in the upcoming year 2000, Teaneck Southern Little League has much to be proud of. With the fun being had by all in Little League play, it eventually culminates into a pursuit of excellence. All-Star teams are assembled to showcase the league's best and hopefully to win championships, any which way we can. TSLL has won its share of honors in this way over the years and still continues to date. Here's what we've done so far:
10sAs far as dominance is concerned, our 10yr. Old division has shown the most gusto, winning District 6, seven times ('91, 93, 94, 95, 96, 98, & 99). They have also been Section 2 champs twice ('95, 96). The pinnacle for this division of TSLL was winning the NJ State Title in 1995.
*Also, the 10yr. Old '96 team was the only team in league history (at least since 1961) in State Tournament play, that ever went on to eventually win another title as an older team. The '96 crop of 10s went on to eventually win the District 6 title in their final year as Little Leaguers, as 12s.
*Also to note, the 1999 10s besides winning District 6, went on to win TSLL's very first Paramus Tournament World Series Championship.
12sThe 12s won the very first District 6 title for the league back in 1961, and the division repeated as champs in '62 and '66. They then went on an extensive drought that was finally broken 32 years later, with another District 6 title in 1998.
7/8sSince Little League does not provide state tournament/all-star play for kids under age 10, the younger kids must go out and play in local tournaments for their age group, wherever they can find them. As such, the very first championships won in the league by 7/8s, was in 1997. The division won the only two titles captured that year in all-star play, on any level, undefeated, winning both the Lyndhurst and Emerson Tournaments.
9sThe first 9yr. Old title ever won by the league was in capturing the Dumont Championship, in 1998. A pretty large tournament, Dumont included nearly 30 teams from all over Northern NJ. Despite all the good competition, our 9s played very well, and went undefeated in winning the division's very first championship ever.
MiscellaneousTeaneck Southern LL has won 18 titles in 11 different years over a 38-year period, from 1961 to 1999.
The most titles won in any one year, was three (3). This was done twice in two very different ways. In 1995, one team won 3 titles; the 10s won District 6, Section 2, and TSLL's crown jewel to date, The NJ State Title. And in 1998, three teams won titles; the 12s were District 6 Champs, the 10s won District 6, and the 9s won the Dumont Tournament. TSLL won two titles in '99, both by the 10s: District 6 and the Paramus Tournament World Series Championship. That same feat (winning the only 2 titles in a season) was initially accomplished in TSLL when the 10s won the only two titles in '96; District 6 and Section 2. The 7/8s repeated this double action by winning the Lyndhurst and Emerson Tournaments in '97.
There have been 4 divisions to win multiple titles alone: the '95 10s, the '96 10s, '97 7/8s and the '99 10s. The 10s also won the league's only sole titles in '94, 93, and 91. The 12s did the same in '66, 62, and 61.
1998 marks the only year that the 12s and 10s completely dominated the District, winning District 6 titles together. *Also it was the only time in the history of District 6, that both divisions (TSLL 10s & 12s) were won by the same league.
Also, '98 was the first time in league history three different divisions in TSLL were champions at the very same time; 12s won District 6, 10s won District 6, and the 9s won the Dumont Tournament.

A TSLL Closer View: 2nd Pres., Richard Rodda, '54Richard Rodda, Teaneck Southern Little League's 2nd President back in 1954, was a pioneer in the field of Recreation on the local, state and national levels. He was also Teaneck's first Superintendent of Recreation back in the early '40s. In 1998, a new Rodda Community Center was dedicated to his efforts. We at TSLL are proud that he was an important part of our baseball beginning, and the better beginnings of sport for all in our town. For his leadership & excellence, we salute him.

12/30/99 - Going Forward, Looking Back...Richard Rodda, 1954As we say goodbye to this last year of the old millenium, we stop to remember where we come from. And as such, we recognize one of our very first League Presidents...-Good Roots, Good Trees!

11/29/99 - In Fond Remembrance of Donald WareRegretfully, I mention the recent passing of a true friend of Teaneck Southern Little League, Donald Ware. Mr. Ware was a 3x Past President of our League, 1982, '83, & '89. In those years, before and since, he has been an ardent keeper of the TSLL flame. His hard work and love for the kids, helped to make our league what it is today. I recently had coffee with him, and he wore proudly an old TSLL jacket while talking fondly of baseball in the town over the past 40 or so years. Reflecting, he smiled an old man's smile, one of contentment and true love of a kid's game. Mr. Ware hit a lot of homeruns for us over the many years, and he will be sincerely missed.
*Our utmost respect and condolences to the Ware family.

This is Town Councilman Sam Bartoletta throwing the first pitch in 1960. Catcher is Bob Flynn, Pitchers (l to r) are Gregg Tacchino, and Billy Newman. No word on the ump, but I'd like to think Sam has a better arm that could move the ball further off the mound. Those lefties are crazy...
Check out the trees around our field, nothing like 45 years of growth to fill them in. Just kidding about the uniforms, right? we're not gonna look like this this year, right? :-)
