New Softball Partnership

For the last two years, West Nyack Little League has played softball with Nanuet Little League on a combined basis in the AA through majors divisions.  We played on a combined basis because coming out of the pandemic our softball enrollment did not support our league playing on its own.  Our partnership with Nanuet worked very well for our league, both in the regular season and in all-stars.

The Nanuet Little League Board of Directors has appointed new individuals to lead their softball program.  This fall, we were told that Nanuet is no longer interested in combining with us to play softball.  They have decided to play softball on their own, independently.

We have agreed to play combined softball with Nyack/Valley Cottage/Congers Little League (NVCC) starting in the spring of 2024.  The details of our combined program need to be worked out, but we would envision our 2024 program to be like 2023 with the only difference being we would replace Nanuet with NVCC as our combined partner.

Registration for the spring season is open, so please visit our website to sign up.  Once registration closes for both leagues, we will have a better sense of the number of teams in each division and the number of managers that we need.

In terms of the calendar, we would anticipate joint tryouts in early January for the competitive divisions, and team selection shortly thereafter.  The regular season would start in early April.  For our competitive divisions we anticipate playing in an inter-league in 2024 with the same teams we played against in 2023, Pearl River and South Orangetown.

As we have seen with our previous combination with Nanuet, there are many benefits for combined play in softball:

  1. Larger player pool – This enables us to place players in the appropriate division, maintain manageable roster sizes and create competitive balance among the teams.

  1. Larger volunteer pool – We will have more people available to manage, coach and perform the administrative work required to run the league.

  1. Additional facilities – In addition to our new turf infield being installed on Medler Field for 2024, playing with NVCC will give us access to the beautiful fields at Nyack High School.

We have worked with NVCC for several years in junior and senior baseball, so we know NVCC well.  NVCC will be a very good partner for our softball program, and we expect to build upon our 2023 success with them in 2024.

All detailed questions will be answered once we know what the registration numbers look like. If you should have any basic questions that you need answered, please reply to this email.

Thank you,

West Nyack Little League Board of Directors
