Parent Code of Conduct
As a parent/guardian of a child participating in a Borough-sponsored program, I endorse the belief that
Sportsmanship Counts in North Plainfield Recreation Sponsored Athletics & Activities. In keeping with
this credo, I pledge that to the best of my ability I will:
- Always keep in mind that first and foremost my child participates in sports to have fun.
- Always do my individual best to bring a sense of civility and sportsmanship to my child's games.
- When referring to any of the players on our team, or to our opponents, that I will speak with the same respect that I know mv own child deserves.
- Always keep in mind that my child's coach and the administrators of this program volunteer their time to help my child.
- Always demonstrate to my child, his/her teammates through my words and actions that winning does not equate to success in youth sports.
- Always delight in what makes my child unique, and not focus on what he/she cannot or did not accomplish on the field of play.
I Always conduct myself in accordance with the true spirit and nature of "Good Sportsmanship":
- By accepting wins without gloating and accepting losses without complaining; and,
- By treating my child, his/her teammates ,our opponents, game officials, all coaches, program administrators, and the game itself with respect
- I will not distract, instruct or direct my child during their game or while they are under the instruction of their coach.
- I understand that as a parent/guardian of a participant in a Borough of North Plainfield-sponsored athletic program and activity, my behavior at all related events (games and practices) must be beyond reproach.
- further understand that all instances of unacceptable behavior on my part, as well as any other violation of this code of conduct by me, is subject to review by the North Plainfield Recreation Committee and could result in my losing the privilege of attending future competitions. Serious violations may also run afoul of NJ State law (P.L.2002,c.74.- Athletic Codes of Conduct). and could result in criminal penalties.
