Intermediate Division FAQs
What is the difference between instructional and intermediate soccer?
The Instructional program provides practice once a week without organized games.
The Intermediate program construct allows for one practice a week and one game on the weekend throughout the spring or fall seasons. The games are a 4 v 4 format on a smaller field (approx. 30 yd x 20 yd) without a goalie position. We begin to divide teams into Boys and Girls teams at this level, but this division does still allow for COED play, so we tend to have a combination of the three. We do try to field referees for all games at this level as well, so players will not only begin to learn the rules of 'organized' play with their coaches, but they will experience it on the game field with our wonderful refs as well - most of which are student athletes from our community.
When are games and practices?
Practices are based on your coach’s preference and availability along with field space considerations. Practice days tend to be scheduled Monday through Thursday evenings for this age group and up. Games for the intermediate level tend to be on Saturdays.
I heard we have to travel???
Yes, there is local travel. At this age, players compete against teams in town as well as local soccer programs. The towns in our Northeast District include; Coventry, Bolton, RHAM, WAM, Ellington and Vernon, and this division will play a combination of home and away games throughout the season.
Are there uniforms?
Yes after registering you will need to reach out to [email protected] to request a number for your player. Please include your players age group, full name and birth year in the email. You will then receive your players number (this will be there number through all age groups) and ordering instructions. You will then need to order a full uniform including Jersey, shorts and socks. All other items are optional.
Players still need to bring the following items to practice and games:
- Size 4 soccer ball
- Sneakers or cleats
- Shin guards and socks
- A FULL water bottle
- A parent or guardian present
When should I hear from my child’s coach?
Coaches typically get their rosters and reach out to families a couple of weeks before the season starts. Practices usually begin a week or two before games, depending on the weather. If you haven’t heard from your coach within a few days of the start of the season, please email us to let us know and we'll make sure you get connected. Often, finding enough volunteers to coach the large number of teams we have is difficult, so please consider helping with your child’s team by registering as a Head or Assistant Coach.
I still have questions, how can I get answers?
