Academy in Action

Academy General Information

 What is Academy?

The Academy program is a bridge between Recreational soccer and Travel soccer. It is designed to develop, and nurture intelligent, adaptable soccer players who are looking to gain skills or aspire to someday play at a higher level of competitive soccer.Benefits of Developmental Academy Style Soccer:

  • Education First Environment
  • Player-Centered coaching vs coach-centered coaching
  • Eliminates the win/lose record as a means to identify quality play
  • Players learn to play in multiple environments
  • Expand the number of opportunities for players to perform task
  • Teams grow stronger when the ability of the individual improves
  • More chances to play with and against better players
  • Players benefit from working with more experienced coaches

The Academy approach recognizes it is more developmentally appropriate to place young players in an environment where they receive more training than matches. In other words, the Academy format allows coaches to focus on development over winning matches proving success is a byproduct of player development. With the Academy format there are no “A, B, and C” teams, as players stay in pools and can be moved back and forth according to their progress and development throughout the season. There are no “Try-outs” and no one gets cut from the team. This approach allows clubs to keep players in a pool, foster development over winning, and provide a fun and more positive playing environment as these children transition into their first years of travel soccer experience.

Should I wait another year to sign up?:

Getting a jump start on increasing your soccer skills will make a difference when competing with academy players.  Soccer is becoming one of the faster growing sports behind football and more kids are joining soccer every day.  Having the foundation to be a great soccer player will make your child better, faster, and more competitive in the future.

I like our team, do I want to put him/her on a new team?:

Your child will be with the same team for 3 years.  They will make friendships that will last years after they move to travel either playing together in junior high and high school or for the same Impact Travel Team.

I don’t think he/she is good enough for Academy:

Academy is for players who want more from their soccer experience.  Practices are more structured, coaches are licensed coaches, and the players have an opportunity to participate in soccer tournaments where they will witness different styles and be a part of the tournament experience.
