The Summer of Soccer!
Between the 2014 FIFA World Cup, FC Tucson playing in their new Mountain Conference and the 10th Annual CDO Summer Program, what a fantastic summer of soccer we have this year!
For 2014, the summer program is comprised of two week modules based upon position specific training, developing the qualities that top defenders, midfielders and forwards need to be as effective as possible.
For many years, goalkeepers have had specialist help, while field players at all levels of soccer have not always received the same sort of focus on what it takes to master the skills that are most relevant to the areas of the field they utilise.
There are a limited number of spaces available on these courses, (coached by USSF and NSCAA licensed coaches), which are open to players aged 9-16. There will be some separate offerings for youth players under the age of nine in due course, and potentially some indoor sessions later in the summer.
: Tuesday 27th May - Friday 6th June
Sample topics: Situational defending (numbers up/down), reading an opponent, making play predictable, marking, tracking & tackling techniques.
: Monday 9th June - Friday 20th June
Sample topics: Improving vision, creative play, passing styles/shapes, beating opponents at speed & crossing.
: Monday 23rd June - Thursday 3rd July
Sample topics: Playing back to goal, movement off the ball, long range shooting, one touch strikes close to goal, finishing from crosses.

Inclement Weather Policy
As monsoon season approaches in late June/early July, the weather is something we have no control over. Player safety is our number one priority, so if lightning is anywhere near the field, we stop practice...if it rains without lightning, we just get wet! We make no apologies for showing caution when it comes to matters of player safety, so if the lightning is deemed to be within 30 seconds (between the flash and the bang), practice will either be suspended or cancelled. No make up dates can be scheduled unfortunately due to limited field availability in the summer.
Weather updates will appear at www.cdosoccer.com if it looks like a storm is in the area, and practice will be cancelled before 5.30pm if the outlook is poor. You can also follow us on Twitter @CDOSoccerFields for up to the minute field status..if you're driving to the field and it starts to rain, maybe reading a tweet can save you a journey!
(Because many costs of the program are paid in advance, registrations are not refundable unless a player is seriously injured and has a doctor's note - but they are transferable to another eligible player if your plans change. If you sign up and then your son or daughter chooses not attend many sessions, no discounts can be given...it's kind of like leaving a light on and not being in that room!)
