About Us
Welcome to the Community Athletic League! We are a Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth sanctioned baseball league serving Elsmere, West Wilmington, Stanton and Newport areas. CAL offers baseball to children age 4 - 18. We play our home games on four fields in two parks located the Town of Elsmere, Fairgrounds Park and Vilone Park. We not only promote baseball skills and good sportsmanship, but physical fitness in general.
CAL was formed in 2005 by Greg Games and a few other individuals who has a vision of what baseball in Elsmere should be. With money from his own pocket and help from the Town of Elsmere, Greg chartered the Community Athletic League. In the few short years CAL has existed, we have formed many young players into All Star caliber athletes. For the past two years CAL has not only played in, but also had the opportunity to host state tournaments at Vilone Park. In 2009, our 8 year old team came in 2nd place in their age group at the states, earning them a spot in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament. We are also proud of our 10 year old team who also won a game in their state tournament. It was an invaluable experience for the players, coaches and parents. Through the hard work of volunteers, coaches and parents, CAL has become a league everyone should be proud of.
What does CAL have to offer that Little League doesn't you ask? Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth baseball offers an extensive tournament trail from age 8 to 18 years old. In Delaware, they play at the state level and go on to Mid-Atlantic regional tournaments. World Series tournaments are offered for ages 10, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 - 18.
Children who sign up with CAL also have the opportunity to travel to other leagues to play games. Due to lower enrollment at the older age brackets (minor level and above), CAL plays game with both Bear and Piedmont. This is a phenomenon that is happening to most baseball leagues up and down the state. Inter leaguing also promotes friendly rivalries when the teams meet at the state tournament level.
So, if you're looking for a well run, exciting new baseball league, then CAL is the place for you. You can email the League Line at
