Saint Matthew School provides a range of athletic opportunities which vary according to grade level. SMS Athletics are an extension of the mission of the school. It is another tool for coaches, parents, teachers, and administrators to teach invaluable lessons about the human spirit, community, and faith.

Saint Matthew School has a no cut policy to encourage all students to participate in athletics. As early as kindergarten, students are given the opportunity to explore sports in a safe and competitive environment. Saint Matthew School competes in two athletic conferences, the Diocesan Athletic Conference and the Harpeth Valley Athletic Conference. 

The following sports are offered at SMS:

Fall – Cheerleading (5th-8th), Cross-Country (K-8th), Flag Football (5th-8th), Volleyball (7th-8th girls), Fall Soccer (5th-8th girls)
Winter – Basketball (3rd-8th), Swimming (5th-8th)
Spring – Golf (6th-8th), Soccer (4th-8th co-ed), Volleyball (5th-6th girls), Flag Football (1st-4th), Junior Cheerleading (1st-4th) and Rugby (1st-8th, Track (5th-8th)
