Volunteer Opportunities

Recreation Soccer Coaches and Assistant Coaches

The life blood of the Morris United recreation program are the volunteer coaches and assistant coaches who dedicate their time to manage our youth soccer teams.  Our volunteer coaches are responsible for the safety and well-being of your players, while ensuring players have fun and develop as responsible athletes.   Every year 150+ volunteer coaches are needed to help manage the 75+ teams who participate in the MUSC fall recreation season.

KinderKicks (PreK and Kindergarten) Volunteer Coaches

KinderKicks volunteer coaches are responsible for helping our professional trainers manage the Saturday training sessions.  All sessions are managed by our professional training staff, but our volunteer coaches are there to help our trainers direct kids and manage the sessions.  All volunteer coaches at this age take direction from our professional coaches.  Volunteering as a KinderKicks coach is an excellent way to get started down the path of being a volunteer coach responsible for a team at older ages.

Division 6 (1st and 2nd grade) Volunteer Coaches

Division 6 volunteer coaches work with our professional training staff to mange weekday training sessions and to conduct 4v4 games on Saturday mornings.  Coaches at this age are responsible for ensuring all teams are signed up for a professional training session during the week, and are responsible for managing the 4v4 games that teams play in each weekend.

Division 3, 4 and 5 Volunteer Coaches

Volunteer coaches in divisions 3, 4 and 5 are responsible for managing all aspects of team logistics including once per week (1 hr) training sessions and game days.   Volunteer coaches set the day of the week and timing for their team's training session. The only way to guarantee a day of the week for your child's training is to volunteer as the coach or asst. coach.  MUSC provides assistance to volunteer coaches through suggested training sessions over the ten week season.

Requirements to be a recreation soccer coach

The safety of our players is paramount to the Morris United Soccer Club.  As such, we must guarantee our volunteers meet a minimum set of safety standards when volunteering to coach.

  1. All Recreation Coaches must register online and pass a background check.  The background check will automatically be conducted once you have registered to be a volunteer coach.
  2. All Recreation Coaches must complete an online concussion education course (Link)
  3. All Recreation Coaches must complete a SAFESPORT abuse prevention online certificate program.   This certificate must be renewed each year through an online update (Link).
  4.  All Coaches are recommended (but not required) to complete a youth coach certification course.  For those coaches interested in learning more about coaching youth soccer and becoming a certified coach able to coach travel soccer, please refer to the NJ Youth Soccer website for a listing of classes and requirements (Link).    Recreation coaches are encouraged to also take these classes.   MUSC will reimburse coaches (up to $45) for ONE US Soccer Grassroots License, NJYS Y course or NJYS State Certificate Course.   Please contact Casey Becht to request a reimbursement once you have been issued your certificate.
