COLORADO ICE SOCCER

Soccer provides an opportunity to:

  • Participate in a healthy recreational activity
  • Make new friends and be part of a team
  • Learn about fair play and sportsmanship
  • Play the world's most popular sport

Developmental soccer is just that, we are developing the soccer player by introducing more advanced concepts and tactics as well as continuing with the basics. Developmental soccer is for 7 year olds to 10 year olds (U8 through U10). Recreational soccer is also available for 10 year olds and older (U11 and up).

At U9's and U10's there are two options available, Traditional and Academy. The Academy program is for those players and families that are ready for a higher level of commitment to soccer. There is more travel involved and tournament play is highly encouraged by the club. Our Academy teams play in higher divisions than the Traditional teams. The Academy program requires a full year commitment. Players are evaluated for placement on Academy teams. For U8 teams and Traditional teams at U9 and U10, many factors are considered when forming teams. Fair competition, number of returning players, number of new registrants, the coach, continuity from season to season, geographic areas, special requests and more. We make every attempt to honor special requests but we cannot guarantee team placement. We try to keep teams intact from season to season if numbers of returning players allows for it, if not then some combining of teams may have to take place.

At the Developmental level teams practice two times per week for one hour at U8's and one hour and 15 minutes at U9 and older and games are on Saturdays. Practices can be anytime from 4pm to dark Monday through Friday and games on Saturdays can be anytime between 8am and 5pm. Most practices and all games for U8's are held at Applewood Park (see Fields tab for directions). Practices and HOME games for U9's and older are at Rooney Road Sports Complex, Southridge Park and Ulysses Park (see Fields tab for directions). At the U9 and older age groups we interleague with other area clubs so half the games will be at home and half the games will be away.

We rely on volunteer coaches for our Micro and Developmental teams. Each team needs at least one parent to coach. A good, responsible coach is the most important person for a successful and positive experience.

Player Equipment - Each player should own a ball and bring it to every practice. U8 players should have a size 3 ball, U9 through U12 players should have a size 4 ball and U13 and older players should have a size 5 ball. Shin guards are mandatory as are athletic shoes or soft cleated soccer shoes. Dress for physical activity (no jeans). Bring warm clothes and water bottle to practices and games.

Youth soccer continues to change in the state of Colorado as well as across the country. Colorado Ice Soccer is committed to staying current with these changes, and is excited to announce another academy season for our U9 and U10 soccer players. Over the past few years, youth soccer clubs have increasingly utilized professional talent to coach these pre-competitive age groups.

Beginning with fall 2010, Colorado Ice Soccer began providing professional club coaches to our U9 and U10 Academy teams
