ABOUT US:
McHenry Pigtail Softball started 50 years ago in 1975. Starting with a couple teams playing locally it has grown into a community of girls and their families learning the sport and how to be competitive. We have grown into a league well respected in our little area of the world. At one point having enough girls playing that we were able to just play in house. As the world changes we continue to do what we can to bring the sport, a safe place, and growth to every girl who signs up to play. We have watched girls grow from rec, to tournament team, to travel ball, high school ball, college ball, and back again. It is just as wonder inspiring to see a 6 year old run to first base for the first time as it is to see a 15 year old round all the bases after her first home run. McHenry Pigtails goal and primary concern is to reach and allow as many girls who want to try a chance to play. To coach them through the skills, rules, and drills that are necessary for the sport and life. I think every board members goal is to make sure when any player ages out they do so still loving to play, still learning something, and wanting to pass on the knowledge. Now as we enter our 50th season with almost 200 girls playing either Rec Ball, Tournament Team(Mayhem), or Travel Ball (McHenry Elite) we are proud of what we have accomplished as well as what we hope to bring to our players in the future! Hit it hard, watch it fly, for the love of the game.
Our Recreational league hosts 2 season of Softball, Spring which starts practices around April and plays games from April through June. We play against other towns in the Chain of Lakes league. Our Fall Ball season is shorter and more focused on practices not games, practices start in August and games are on weekends in September and October.
Our recreational tournament team, McHenry Mayhem is an all year commitment with try outs happening at the same time as Fall Ball, practices start indoors and move outside at the start of Spring. This team will compete in 3 (possibly more) tournaments over the summer. Girls who make Mayhem also play Spring and Fall ball.
McHenry Elite is our Travel team, try outs happen in the summer usually in July, games and tournaments year round with practice and play moving indoors during the winter.
