Volunteers are the Wallowa Valley Youth Soccer Association.
Without volunteers, there wouldn't be soccer in the Wallowa Valley. Maintaining enough volunteers each season determines how many kids can play soccer, and the quality of experience those players have. Volunteers are truly at the core of this league. We have volunteer roles at the team and league level:
COACHES (TEAM STAFF)
Each team has both a head and assistant coaching role. While the gameplay increases with older age divisions, to be a successful coach you don't need to be an expert at soccer. By simply giving some time, encouragement, and energy - you can make a huge difference in the experience of a player.
In addition, the WYSA, as a member of the Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA) require that all volunteer coaches (head and assistant) complete the following:
1) An annual background check (approx. 10-15 minutes, fee paid by WVYSA)
2) SafeSport Certification (approx. 90 minute online training, fee paid by WVYSA) - certifications are current for two years.
Volunteers can sign up two ways:
1) If you are registering players, you can volunteer to coach during the registration process - easy!
2) If you are not registering players, click on the Sign Up button below. Register an account. Select the division (age group) you are interested in, and follow the prompts to provide contact information. Still easy!
** If you completed the SafeSport training within the past two years, please upload your certificate during the sign up process **
Once registered as a volunteer coach, WVYSA will reach out with instructions on how to complete the annual background check and SafeSport certification.
LEAGUE VOLUNTEERS
In addition to coaching roles, we also rely on volunteers to referee games (U11 and above divisions) and setup and maintain playing fields.
