Be A Referee

T-CYSA cannot fulfill its mission without support from volunteers. Included is a constant need for volunteers to be referees. You must sign up through Tri-Cities Soccer Referee Association and complete one of the certification clinics offered.  Notice of new courses will be announced as they are offered.

The amount of pay is not that great for the "occasional" referee who only officiates a few games in the fall. Therefore, parents should really consider most of these people "volunteers", and offer them support, both in terms of thanks, and in terms of each team fulfilling their responsibility to a referee.

Each team should strive to meet the following three "minimum" objectives:

1. At least one adult should step forward and try being the "Ref in the Pool" between the U8 and U19 ages. Referees need to be certified and take the licensing course through the local Tri-Cities Soccer Referees Association. Notice of new courses will be sent out as they are offered.

2. Each team should make sure they complete one referee evaluation for each game. One evaluation per team does a LOT to help us improve our programs, and it is the appropriate place to make "constructive suggestions" about an official's work.

3. Each team should actively work to remove negative comments about officials from the sidelines and in their interactions other team members and players. Negative comments only take away the joy of the game, and make it much harder to recruit and retain officials, which make it harder for the officials to become "good at it" which gives you more to complain about. Let's break that circle.

Is Coaching Your Calling?

T-CYSA is looking for coaches!  If you have coaching experience and/or want to give back to our youth please sign up to coach. You pick the practice days and times and we provide the rosters and schedule. For those older youth who have played and still looking to give back please don't hestitate! For those parents willing to step up but maybe say "I don't know enough about soccer...or I don't know anything about soccer other than my child loves it" we have help for you too! We have others who are willing to come help you set up your first practice and our website provides some training outlines. We will be updating it as we have more information. Please step up and volunteer to coach a team! We are always in search of coaches so that all children who want to play are able! Please contact us as soon as possible so that we can ensure enough coaches at [email protected] or [email protected].

Thank you!

T-CYSA Needs You!

Tri-Cities Youth Soccer Association (T-CYSA) is an organization designed to build good citizens. It is a program of leadership, preparing today's youth to be tomorrow's leaders. At the local level, T-CYSA relies on a devoted legion of adult volunteers to help ensure that the organization remains structured and runs smoothly. Your youth soccer program is always looking for responsible and enthusiastic individuals to support and coordinate soccer events and activities. As a volunteer, you should have a keen interest in the safety, well-being, and overall development of children. By reading further, you will discover that the benefits of volunteering are endless. You will also gain a better understanding of why you should become involved, who volunteers are, what you can do, and how you can sign up.

Who Can Volunteer?

Anyone can apply to become a volunteer. Whatever talents or skills you have, we can use them! Across the country, volunteers are grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles, retirees, community leaders, former soccer players, friends, neighbors, and more. Any community member who wishes to become a volunteer may apply. All parents of children involved in youth soccer are strongly encouraged to volunteer. As a parent, volunteer, you have the opportunity to spend quality time with your child in a safe, fun-filled environment. Oftentimes, parent and child social lives parallel each other. Volunteering allows your life and your child's life to intersect on common ground, with shared interests and goals.

On rare occasions individuals may be denied the privilege of volunteering for reasons, past or present, that may be detrimental to the positive development of young people, other volunteers, and/or FIFA. When you apply to become a volunteer, you give the local youth soccer organization the right to conduct necessary background checks.
