Coaching Certification
Coach Safely
In accordance with the Alabama Department of Public Health and the City of Montgomery, ALL volunteer coaches and dugout parents for athletes ages 14 and under must complete a course to help prevent and respond to injuries. (We at East Montgomery Baseball and Softball are requiring ALL Managers and Coaches (14+) including our Board Members to take the course.) This course is FREE!!! and it includes the concussion training that has previously been required. Contact your League President for information. They will collect your information and provide it to the training site and you will get an email with the information that you need to take the course. All coaches must be certified and provide a copy of their certification card to their League President!

MAJOR BAT CHANGE
RULE EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2018
Effective January 1, 2018, all 2 5/8 bats and 2 1/4 inch bats must meet new performance standards established by USA Baseball, the national governing body of amateur baseball in the United States. The new bats will be available for purchase in September 2017. All BPF 1.15 bats will not be approved for DYB tournament play beginning in 2018. ALL BATS PURCHASED BEFORE SEPTEMBER 1, 2017 WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR PLAY IN 2018 AND THEREAFTER. PARENTS SHOULD CAREFULLY CONSIDER THIS RULE BEFORE PURCHASING NEW BATS FOR THEIR PLAYERS FOR THE 2017 SEASON. Click here for more information.
EVALUATIONS
Players are strongly encouraged to participate in evaluations. PLEASE ARRIVE 15-20 MINUTES EARLY!!!! If your player is not going to make it to evaluations, PLEASE contact your league president!!

Softball News
IMPORTANT
EARRINGS - If you are thinking about getting your child's ears pierced, WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU WAIT UNTIL AFTER
SOFTBALL SEASON since the girls cannot wear earrings while playing softball. This applies to all ages - no exceptions.
HELMETS - Dixie Youth passed a rule directing that helmets not contain any artwork that could resemble the shape, color, or size of a softball. Although EM has not enforced this issue, please be advised that this matter is up to the discretion of the umpires, and any player wearing a helmet that meets these criteria may be asked to remove the said helmet.
FACEMASKS - Sweetees, Darlings and Angels - ALL INFIELDERS MUST WEAR A FACEMASK!! Ponytails, Belles, and Debs - ALL PITCHERS MUST WEAR A FACEMASK.
BATS - APPROVED FOR SOFTBALL:
Axe Bat, Demarini, Easton, Louisville Sluuger, Marucci Sports, Miken, Mizuno, Rawlings, Worth
NOT APPROVED: Nike, Anderson, Combat, Wilson
Just as long as the bat is an APPROVED Bat whatever is comfortable for your child to hold and isn't too heavy!
