TRIP ELLIS - DIRECTOR OF COACHING

Trip Ellis serves as the Director of Coaching for all FC Richmond programs.Trip was appointed Assistant Director of Coaching in September 2000. There his responsibilities included directing the recreational program, implementing fundraising events for the travel, player development and recreational programs, securing corporate sponsorship, coaching select Magic & Mystx teams, and assisting Dave Amsler in the travel program.
 
A member of the original ’73 Magic team, Trip played with FC Richmond from 1985 through 1992. His U-17 Magic team won the Virginia State Cup and his U-18 Bethesda Mustang team won the Maryland State Cup. While playing for FC Richmond, Trip was a member of the Virginia State ODP team for five years, the U.S. Region I team for three years, and was an NSCAA All South Team selection in 1990-1992.
 
Trip attended Philadelphia University on a soccer scholarship from 1992-1995. In his freshman year Philadelphia University won the Philadelphia Soccer 7 Championship, and Trip was selected to the Soccer 7 All-Star Team. As a freshman and sophomore, Trip started every game and was team Co-Captain in 1994.
 
In 1995 Trip transferred to the University of South Florida on a soccer scholarship for his remaining two seasons of eligibility. During those two years, USF won the Conference USA Championship and was ranked 11th in the country. Trip was a Co-Captain for his junior and senior seasons and was a Conference USA Team selection.
 
In 1996 Trip began his professional career as a second round draft pick for the Philadelphia Kixx of the NPSL (indoor). From 1997 to 2000, Trip played for the Richmond Kickers (A-League), appearing in over 50 matches. In his second year with the team, the Kickers won the 1998 Atlantic Division Championship. Trip was named to the A-League Team of the Week in both the 1998 and 1999 seasons. In 2000, Trip played for the Raleigh Capital Express (A-League) before joining FC Richmond full-time.
 
Trip coached for the FC Richmond Metro program in 1992 and for the Magic and Mystx programs from 1996 to the present. From 1997 to 2000 he served as a Team Trainer for the Pocoshock Valley Youth Soccer Club working with boys and girls U-8 through U-18. In the summer of 2000 he organized and directed the "Trip Ellis Pro Soccer School." Trip has worked numerous camps and clinics with Philadelphia University and the University of South Florida, the Richmond Kickers, Philadelphia Kixx and Raleigh Capital Express.
 
In 2001 Trip earned his USSF National "A" Coaching License and his USSF National "Y" (youth) Coaching License.  Trip is married and has two daughters.
 

DAVE AMSLER - TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

Dave has been a professional soccer teacher for 50 years. In 1975 he was one of the first 50 coaches to earn the USSF "A" coaching license -- American soccer’s highest license.
 
Dave has been the Director of Coaching for FC Richmond since 1985. FC Richmond’s 1,500-member youth soccer organization offers programs for recreation, player development, and travel soccer players, including the Magic and Mystx travel teams.
 
In 1976 Dave founded the Richmond Strikers Soccer Club and continued as its director until 1985 when he founded FC Richmond Magic. He was active in both the boys and girls Olympic Development Programs for 20 years as a Region I staff coach and a Virginia State team coach. Dave served as Director of the JCP State Coaching School for 10 years and has been a frequent lecturer for youth soccer coaches in the South. Dave was also Co-Director of the Randolph Macon Soccer Camp for eight years and was a high school soccer coach for three years. 
 
In 1997, Dave founded and was President of the Virginia Club Champions League (VCCL) for 18 years and now exists as the Club Champions League (CCL). The Club Champions League (CCL) is the first, and largest, club-based youth soccer league in the United States.  With four distinct competitive divisions, the league has over 13,000 participants, and over 72,000 registered youth soccer players within CCL member clubs.  The CCL is larger than many state associations. The league is one of, if not, the most competitive league in the region and/or country. 
 
As a soccer player and coach, Dave has traveled to thirty (30) different countries. Over eight hundred (800+) former players in his programs have played in 100+ different US colleges and universities. Over the years, Dave and his staff has coached and participated in the development of twenty (20) National Team players; several college (6) and high school (15) All-Americans; twenty four (24) professional players; three (3) professional-level coaches; and the only current FIFA-licensed referee in the State of Virginia.
 
While attending Campbell College in North Carolina, Dave was voted team MVP all four years, was a 3-time All-South All-American, and captained Campbell College for two years. In 1969 he captained the team to a 5th place finish in the nation in the NAIA National Championship and was inducted into the Campbell University College Hall of Fame in October 2000. Dave earned his B.S. in Health and Physical Education while attending Campbell College.
 
He is married and has three children, four stepchildren and three grandchildren.

 


TRIP DUNVILLE - ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF COACHING

Trip Dunville was one of the original members of the FC Richmond Magic program.  During his time as a player, Trip was a member of ODP State and Regional teams and a member of the NSCAA All-Area team in 1985 and 1986.  In 1985, he was also selected as a member of the NSCAA High School All-American team and also won the Henrico County School Board Recognition of Excellence and Achievement. Trip was recently inducted into the Douglas Freeman High School Hall of Fame in 2018.  After high school, Dunville headed to Davis and Elkins College to play for the nationally ranked Senators soccer program.

After college, Dunville headed down to the Caribbean to pursue various interests, including running a soccer club called St. Thomas Youth Soccer Association. While in the Caribbean, Trip became a member of the US Virgin Islands National Team and competed with the national team in their 2006 World Cup Qualifying campaign.

Dunville, a member of the FC Richmond 25th Anniversary team, is now back in Richmond. Trip earned his USSF National "A" Coaching License and his USSF National "Y" (youth) Coaching License. Dunville will continue to coach in the Magic/Mystx program and will oversee all aspects of the Player Development Program.    


TREVOR SPENCER - DIRECTOR OF YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

Trevor Spencer serves as the Director of Youth Development for FC Richmond's Player Development Program (PDP)and U10 Travel Programs. In addition to Trevor’s role as the Director of Youth Development, he oversees our Total Soccer Training (TST) program and looks to improve the supplemental training aspect of the club.  

Trevor Spencer has a wealth of knowledge to share and teach our rising players. He holds a USSF “A” license as well as a USSF National Youth. In addition to his coaching education, he has over 15+ years coaching and directing in the club soccer environment with the Richmond Strikers and, most recently as Director of Coaching at AC Sandhills in NC.

In his playing days, Trevor attended VCU on a full scholarship and led the team in goals and assists in 1996. He totaled 14 career goals and was team captain in both the 1997 and 1998 seasons. Both years the team was crowned Colonial Athletic Association Champions and made NCAA Tournament appearances. He was an All-State, All-Conference, and All-South Atlantic selection. Trevor also played on the Jamaican Youth National team at U14, U16, U18, U20 and U23.

“My family and I are ecstatic to be joining a quality club like FC Richmond and for the opportunity to return to the Richmond area” said Spencer. During his time at Richmond Strikers, Spencer frequently coached against Dave Amsler and Trip Ellis and developed a relationship through the game. “Over the years, I have developed respect and friendships with Dave Amsler and Trip Ellis. As a former Richmond Strikers coach for 15 years, Dave Amsler and I have gone toe-to-toe on the sidelines many times in, then, VCCL games, State Cup games, and various tournament games. We have always greeted each other with a smile, handshake, and positive congratulations to whoever won the game.” Spencer also had the opportunity to be on the same side of the field with our Director of Coaching, Trip Ellis. “Trip Ellis and I trained with the Richmond Kickers professional team for a couple of years. I have always admired his dedication, demeanor, and professionalism on and off the field.”  In addition Trevor coached against, and developed a rapport with Trip Dunville for a number of years.  And Trip Dunville and Trevor attended their USSF A license course together.

With those relationships already established from years past, this new role and opportunity to work alongside one another will benefit the club tremendously, not only at the youngest age groups of travel soccer at the introductory level, but also in the later years of these players’ careers at the club.

IAN STOWE - DIRECTOR OF ACTIVITIES

Ian Stowe joined FC Richmond full time in the summer of 2015 and served as the Director of Metro until summer of 2019. Stowe will now start his new role as Director of Activities for the club as well as overseeing the Metro program. The new role will be focused on growing programs within the club and helping to introduce new programs.
 
Stowe has been a member of FC Richmond since 1998 when he joined the Magic '88 team. During his time as a player for the club, Ian was a member of the ‘89 State ODP team, the 2003 VCCL Select Team that participated in the Dallas Cup, and played internationally in Brazil with Clube Atlético Paranaense in 2005 and in Spain with Real Club Deportivo de La Coruña in 2006. Stowe also competed in the United Soccer League for both the Richmond Kickers and Virginia Legacy PDL teams from 2007-2009.
 
Ian attended Clover Hill High School and was a three time All-District and All-Region selection as well as a two-time All-State selection. In 2007, Stowe was named All-Metro and All-Region Player of the Year. In the fall of 2007, Ian attended The College of William and Mary where he spent the next four years competing in the Colonial Athletic Conference and winning the regular season and conference tournament during his senior season (2010).
 
After graduating from William and Mary, Ian returned home to begin coaching for FC Richmond in the fall of 2011. Since 2011, Stowe has acquired his USSF National C and National Youth licenses.
 
Stowe will continue with the Metro program by providing more opportunities for player growth, identifying players for the Magic/Mystx teams, and to observe and manage all players and their respective teams throughout the entirety of the season. In addition, he will be introducing new activities and programs to the club to provide more opportunities for club members/families. 

KRIS SOUTH - DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

Kris South serves as the Director of Travel Operations and Marketing for the Club.  Kris has worked in the sports industry for most of her career.  Kris holds an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology and Sport Science with a minor in Coaching from JMU and a Masters of Arts in Sports Management from The Ohio State University.  She began her career as the tournament director at the PGA's Nike Dominion Open at The Dominion Club.  Kris then spent several years as the Assistant Director of Marketing for Athletics at The Ohio State University.  After taking time off to spend at home with her two boys, Kris joined FC Richmond as a manager in 2010 and then in her current position in 2011.

Kris ran track at JMU and enjoys running, golf and spending time with her family.  Kris is married with two children, Michael('98 Magic, Pratt University) and Ryan.


ROBIN HINTON - METRO, U10 TRAVEL AND PDP ADMINISTRATOR

Robin Hinton has been affiliated with FC Richmond since 2003.  She served as team manager for 4 years prior to being hired by FC Richmond.

From 2007-2014, Robin worked as the Administrator of FC Richmond’s Player Development Program and Recreational Program.  She stepped into a bigger role in 2014, taking on FC Richmond’s Metro program and becoming part of the Administrative team for FC Richmond’s Travel organization.  She currently is Administrator of both Player Development Program and Metro.

Robin grew up in the Midlothian area and is married with one daughter(Anne Taylor) and one son(Reid- '94 Magic).
