Welcome!!

Welcome to all Shaler Area returning/new youth lacrosse (LAX) players, families and those interested in the SAYGLA youth girls lacrosse program.  We are looking forward to a fun filled, exciting season of lacrosse!  Below are a few tips to better understand our program and help make the season enjoyable and rewarding for all:

Objectives for the Season

The main objectives at the 8U-14U age levels are that players:
       1. Learn the fundamentals of the game of lacrosse
       2. Learn the value of team work and commitment
       3. Learn good sportsmanship
       4. Have FUN!!

Learning the fundamentals, character/player development, sportsmanship, and  team work will be stressed throughout the season. SAYGLA’s main goal is to have players fall in love with the sport of lacrosse and want to come back and play for many years to come.

Coaches
The coaches are primarily volunteers and work hard to the development of our youth programs.  The goal of each coach is to teach the children to enjoy the game of lacrosse. Each team will be coached by parent volunteers who have experience coaching at this level and/or have played the game in some capacity. That being said we are always looking for parents to assist and help out. No experience necessary - just a commitment to the players and a willingness to learn.

Referees
All lacrosse Referees are certified and professionally trained. It is quite difficult for referees to see everything on the field, they will miss things. Verbal harassment by the players, coaches or spectators is not acceptable. Such harassment sets a bad example for the players and is not worth it.

Commitment
We all know how families get busy, schedules fill up and at times you may encounter scheduling conflicts. However, please make every effort to bring your daughter to every game and practice.

Remember it's only a game
Feel free to talk to the coaches if you don't understand something of have any questions or concerns. Sometimes a brief chat with a coach can avoid any potential misunderstandings, ill feelings, etc. Remember to be positive, affirming, and cheer loudly for your players. They will appreciate the encouragement and be more motivated to go the extra mile for their coaches and teammates

Looking forward to having your daughters join the lacrosse program and getting the season started!!
