FORT LUPTON BLUE DEVILS METRO WRESTLING

FORT LUPTON BLUE DEVILS METRO WRESTLING

Details

In 1969 Serafin "Pino" Bachicha founded the Fort Lupton Metro Wrestling.  Pino wanted a place where all kids could come learn a sport and get off the streets.  What Pino started all those years ago has now become a legacy.  Boys and girls, ages four to fourteen, and of all abilities are welcome in our club.  Single legs and halves are not the only skills that are taught in our room.  While our wrestlers are sweating it out on the mat, they are learning important life skills as well.  Not only does wrestling teach self discipline, work ethic, respect, loyalty, and sportsmanship, but it also builds character, a sense of citizenship, and integrity.

"We are not just building wrestlers; we are building decent human beings."  Pino Bachicha

Fort Lupton Metro Wrestling (FLMW) participates in Metro Junior Wrestling League (MJWL) tournaments for no additional cost beyond your registration fee of $45.00.  These season tournaments typically do not offer medals/trophies.  MJWL post season regional and championship tournaments do give placement medals/trophies.

We offer 6 divisions for ages 4-14 based on the age of your wrestler as of December 31st of the current season.  Age divisions are: 4U, 6U, 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U.  No High School Freshmen are allowed to participate.  Ages are then bracketed within the age division by weight.

All divisions are coed.  FLMW does participate in the MJWL girls only championship wrestling tournament towards the end of the season with medals/trophies awarded.

Wrestlers are weighed before each MJWL tournament at FLMW practices and bracketed/entered by FLMW bracket chairperson for the upcoming tournament.  You do not have to attend all tournaments, but your wrestler will need to participate in at least 4 MJWL tournaments in order to participate in MJWL post season regional and championship tournaments (including girls only championship).  MJWL schedule of tournaments will be handed out during practice for the upcoming season.  Tournaments are typically on Saturdays starting the first Saturday in November with post season regional and championship tournaments usually occurring near the end of January / beginning of February.  We do take breaks for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s holidays.

First practice is typically the first Tuesday in October from 5-8pm at the Pino Gym in Fort Lupton.  Please watch for announcements on Facebook, our registration website, and via email.

We do ask for parent volunteers during the season to help with home tournament set-up and tear down, concessions, door entry, and similar type tasks.  We also ask for concession donations from each wrestler family for home tournaments.  All board members and coaches are volunteers and we are a non-profit organization.  We invest the money we earn during the season back into our program for our wrestlers.  In the past we've given our wrestlers custom shirts, wrestling shorts, compression shirts, etc. Each season is different and depends on if we are able to make enough in the current season to do something for our wrestlers that season.  These funds also help support our end of the season banquet.

We do fundraisers and each year is different on what fundraiser(s) we do.  Fundraising dollars help support our ability to do something for the wrestlers as well as help buy supplies for wrestling practices / tournaments and support our end of the season banquet.

FLMW coaches do attend other tournaments, such as Western Suburban Wrestling League tournaments and Rocky Mountain National Events, among others.  If you are interested in participating in additional tournaments outside of the MJWL, you will need to check with a coach on your own to see if they are attending.  You will also need to register your wrestler on your own for tournaments outside of MJWL and typically there are fees involved to register.  There is no guarantee a coach is going to a tournament you'd like to attend, but we do try and accommodate as best we can and within reason.
