Dedication

Chris Bond, a teacher of Earth Science and Physics in the Trumansburg School District for 35 years, was instrumental in bringing organized soccer to the Trumansburg community. Before soccer was an official school sport, Chris began an intramural soccer program / club in 1975. From that time on Chris was dedicated to the sport and went on to coach Trumansburg varsity soccer from 1977 to 2005.

In this role, Chris demonstrated all the qualities of a “good coach”. Not only did he impart the technical and tactical skills of soccer, but he modeled and encouraged in his players the virtues of hard work, teamwork, respect for referees and opponents, and, above all, good sportsmanship. As a testament to this latter quality, Chris and his teams were often recognized by the other coaches in their soccer league for  good sportsmanship.

In addition, Chris volunteered his time and talents to coach middle school teams during the spring season and organized the Trumansburg Summer Soccer program for children in grades 2 thru 8. In so doing, Chris laid the foundation for a solid soccer experience for hundreds of local youth.

Finally, during the last few years of his life, a dream to establish a “full-service” club centered on Trumansburg and designed to meet the  needs of youth soccer players in the Greater Trumansburg area came to pass with the creation of the Taughannock Soccer Club. Chris’ desire and energy were the motivation behind the club and the benefits that the club provides are a testimony to his efforts.

Soon after his death in 2007, Chris was honored by the Trumansburg community and school district by naming the school soccer fields in his memory.
