About CYO

ABOUT HOLY SPIRIT CYO
The spiritual growth and success of the Catholic Youth Organization at Holy Spirit is due largely to the support and dedication we receive from energetic player participants, motivating head coaches, encouraging assistant coaches, and an enthusiastic group of parent volunteers. The Holy Spirit CYO program aims to minister to the holistic growth of our children through sports education and participation. If you are interested in our program, follow the link to our registration page at holyspiritcyo.com. Contact any of our CYO Board Members for more information.

May our Lord guide your heart with the Holy Spirit as you seek to serve his children.

MISSION STATEMENT
The Mission of Holy Spirit’s CYO Program shall be to:
* Promote Christian values and the principles of the CYO philosophy through the vehicle of sports.
* Promote good sportsmanship, team building and friendly relationships among the players, coaches, officials, program administrators, parents, spectators and the parish community.
* Promote loyalty to CYO ideals to both the youth and the parish community.
*Remain faithful to the Christian ideals of CYO, exercising a unique and rewarding ministry for the youth with whom the program serves.

PURPOSE OF CYO ATHLETICS

CYO provides for the development of young people's spiritual, emotional, intellectual, social and physical potential. Based on Catholic values, CYO offers guidance to assist young people as they assume responsibility for themselves and for their relationship with their faith, peers and community. CYO strives to meet the diverse needs of all youth regardless of religious affiliation.

Every CYO activity provides opportunities that encourage and assist youth in their growth and development towards Christian adulthood.

The specific purpose of the CYO athletic program is to develop in youth a sense of self-esteem, self-discipline, cooperation and fair play by providing a competitive team sport activity through which they will practice the teaching of their faith.

This is accomplished through the efforts of the adult volunteer coach. The CYO coach is to serve the team with a Youth Ministry philosophy; more than being a sports technician, he/she is an important role model for young people. In that capacity and above anything else, a coach in the CYO program strives to exemplify behavior of a committed Christian adult. He/she lives by the letter, but more importantly, by the spirit of these rules and philosophies.

Ultimate responsibility for the success of the CYO program lies with the volunteer adult participant. Adults involved in CYO must remember that the program exists for the Christian growth of young people. Conduct of adults must always model Christian values and virtues. When adults forget the primary focus of CYO, the program becomes destructive. When adults remain faithful to the Christian ideals of CYO, they exercise a unique and rewarding ministry to the young with whom they come in contact.
