BRIAN AINSCOUGH APPOINTED BOLTS DIRECTOR OF COACHING

3/14/2008: Brian Ainscough has been named Director of Coaching and Boys Director for the FC Greater Boston Bolts, in an announcement made by club president, John Willett.

"We are thrilled to have Brian coming back to the Bolts" said Willett.  "In addition to his extensive experience in all aspects of the sport, Brian is bringing the enthusiasm and energy needed to continue the club's development as a local and national leader in youth soccer".

A native of
Dublin, Ireland, Ainscough is currently the men's head coach at Northeastern University. He led the Huskies to their second straight CAA playoff (6-4-1) birth in 2007.  Prior to Northeastern, Ainscough served as head men's coach at  Bowdoin College, and before that at Providence College.  He graduated from Farleigh Dickinson in 1987, where he earned All-Mid Atlantic Conference honors 4 years in a row.  Ainscough played professionally in the American Professional Soccer League, 1988-1992, including a stint with the Boston Bolts.

Ainscough also has extensive experience in youth soccer, having previously coached for FC Greater Boston, served as DOC for Coastal Soccer Club in
Maine, and worked with the New England  Eagles. "With the USSF Development Academy program, and the return of the Boston Breakers and Women's Professional Soccer, this is an exciting time to be involved with soccer in the United States in general, and Boston in particular" Ainscough said.  "I am looking forward to working with the Bolts, who are on the forefront of youth soccer development at the highest level."   He has also coached on the ODP and USYSA Regional staffs, most recently as head coach of the Region 1 BU15 regional team.

Coach Ainscough will begin his official duties in July, 2008, succeeding John Kerr Jr, who was recently appointed head coach at his alma mater,
Duke University in Durham, NC.  "It gives me great pleasure to hand over the reins to Brian Ainscough", said Kerr, "as it was his U17 Bolts team that I took over in 1999.  Brian has the energy and the pedigree to take the Bolts to the next level, and I am excited to follow the club's progress."  Kerr is serving out his term as Bolts DOC through June, 2008, and will be working with Ainscough for a smooth transition.

Ainscough will be assisting the club in finding a replacement for outgoing Bolts Girls Director, Tracy Kerr. The club has identified several very high level candidates who are interested in developing this part of the Bolts organization.
