2024 Adult (18+) Summer Basketball League

Welcome to Jackson Friends Church Adult (18+) Summer Basketball League!

NOTE: This basketball league is a "BRING YOUR OWN TEAM" league, Full Court 5 on 5, for adults who are 18 years of age and older. Cost is $80 PER INDIVIDUAL and guarantees at least 8 games total. IF you do not have a team you may try to sign up as a free agent, and if there are enough players to make a team from the free agents that will be done (if not, you will receive a full refund minus $5 ). MINIMUM SEVEN PLAYERS ON A TEAM.

*SUBSTITUTE RULE - each week, teams will be allowed up to two substitute players off the roster to play in game IF they are missing players. One substitute for one player missing, or two substitutes for two or more players missing. If you have many players out, and need more than two substitutes to play the game, you may bring more but the game will be an automatic forfeit. But it will still be refereed and played. Only one substitute will be allowed in the playoffs, if a team has five players or less (may be subject to time limits).

This summer, we will split into two divisions:
Division 1: 18+ Competitive Division, for those that are still in their prime and competing at the highest level. Most players should have high school basketball experience and maybe some with college playing experience. This division is more geared towards youthful teams, with players in there 20s or early 30s. IF you played last year in this division and were under .500 for the season, you MAY be moved to the Recreational Division to keep this group more competitive. The competitive division will play games once a week on TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS. Thursday, July 4th games will be played on WEDNESDAY, July 3rd.

Division 2: 18 + Recreational Division, will be more suited more for those recently out of high school or guys trying to get a good run in, as well as those players that are past their prime and/or in their 40s. The recreational division will play games once a week on MONDAYS this year.

The league regular season runs from June 3 through July 18 (seven regular season games). Single Elimination Playoffs for ALL TEAMS will take place on Monday/Tuesday/Thursday starting July 22 and ending by August 8 (at the latest, depending on how many teams in each division). Games will start as early as 6 PM, with the latest game starting at 9 PM. Two certified OHSAA referees will be at each game. The games will consist of two 20 minute halfs on a running clock, with stoppages on dead balls under one minute in the first half, and two minutes in the second half (including made baskets). Before each game we will have a prayer and a short devotion for teams at half time.

The costs for the league registration will be $80 per individual, and an additional $20 IF a jersey is needed (all jerseys worn must be JFC jerseys, UNLESS you have appropriate matching jerseys). Jerseys do run a little big.

HOW TO CREATE YOUR TEAM:
Each team has to have a coach, who can also be a player. That coach/player, once signed up, can create a team, then send an invite through the registration system for other players to join the team as well!

While this is a competitive league, we will not tolerate disruptive behavior on the court. A technical will result in a 5 minute sitting penalty (player may be replaced), while two technical fouls in a game will result in an ejection. 

Any player removed from the league for disciplinary reasons will not receive a refund.
$5 may be withheld if a player chooses to withdrawal from league after sign ups. Refunds after the season begins will be up to the director.

2024 Co-Ed Volleyball Camp (3rd - 8th grade)

This is our second summer of volleyball camp here at Jackson Friends Church. We are partnering with Lake Center Christian HS Head Coach Hannah Miller this summer, to put on two offerings of a THREE DAY volleyball camp here at Jackson Friends Church.

These volleyball camps will run on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the following dates:
  • June 24, 25 and 26, from 1:00 - 2:30 PM
  • July 29, 30 and 31 from 1:00 - 2:30 PM

The cost for either three day camp will be $52 and will include a snack and drink after the last day of camp. This will be open to be girls and boys, from grades (JUST FINISHED) 3rd through 8th. We will host both camp days at Jackson Friends Church, at 7945 Portage St. NW, Massillon, OH 44646. Camps will take place on two regulation volleyball courts in our gym (enter through Door#2 in the Portage St. parking lot).

These camps will focus on the FUNdamentals of volleyball. Athletes will learn the basic foundational skills for passing, setting, serving and attacking. In addition, athletes will get the opportunity to compete in games for skills and in team play. We will split up the participants into two groups, 3rd - 5th grade and 6th - 8th grade.

Coach Hannah Miller is the head volleyball coach for Lake Center Christian High School, in Hartville. More info to come soon.

We hope that we can continue to build some momentum from our volleyball camps to develop into a youth volleyball league in the future, and/or more opportunities for camps/clinics.

2024 JFC Summer Soccer Camps (K-6th) w/Malone U.

This is a three day soccer camp for grades K-6th (Grade just finished), featuring a session in June and July. The camps will both run Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, with FRIDAY as a rain date, if any of those three days is cancelled due to weather. Camps will be held at Jackson Friends Church!

The cost for either session is $55.

June 11, 12 and 13 from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM
July 9, 10 and 11 from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM

We are excited to run back our partnership with Malone University women's soccer team to run our co-ed soccer camps in both June and July! We had a great turn out last year for both camps, are are pumped to run things back again this summer!

Head Coach of MU's women's soccer team, Bailey Shattell, will be running the camps, along with a few other assistant coaches/players. Prior to Malone, Bailey served as an assistant coach at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and a grad assistant at Anderson University. As an athlete, Bailey was the first ever three sport athlete at Houghton College, playing collegiate soccer, basketball and softball.

These camps will be held across our main soccer field at Jackson Friends Church. Coaches will work on technical skills with the kids, including dribbling, footwork, passing, shooting, etc. All of the kids will be split up by age to be grouped with kids on their own skill level. We will have popsicles or a snack for the kids each day at the end of camp and potentially a JFC Sports souvenir (but no guarantees there).

Parents are free to hang out and watch or leave and come back at the end of the timeframe.

BE PREPARED:
We are asking every participant to bring their own water bottle (or your choice of drink). Make sure you put ice in it, because that water will heat up quickly)! You may refill those waters inside if needed. We will have popsicles/snack at the end of each day of camp for kids. Soccer balls are provided for anyone that needs one. If the weather is extra hot/sunny we will take shade breaks under the pavilion.

Jackson Friends Church/ Coach Larry Taylor Summer Basketball Camps 2024

We are excited for our fourth annual Jackson Friends Church/Larry Taylor Basketball fundamental summer basketball camps. We had a ton of fun again last summer and we are excited to offer our basketball camps again this summer!

Former head coach Larry Taylor will direct the basketball camps focusing on the basic fundamentals of passing, dribbling, shooting and most of all team play. Coach Taylor has 30+ years of experience as a head basketball coach. Winning numerous coach of the year awards. In his basketball coaching successes he has made two trips to the final four to Columbus Ohio as part of the OHSAA basketball tournament. But his most rewarding experience is watching young players develop into great players and be a success story for life. He is looking forward to seeing all of you at our camps this summer.

Here are the offerings for the summer basketball camps, including the shooting camp for grades 4th-9th: (If your child just finished 3rd grade, you may sign them up for either the K-3rd camps or the 4th and up camps). These are THREE DAY camps, running Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday!

What You Need to Bring: Campers should bring a water bottle and some energy, we provide the rest! You may bring your own basketball if you'd like, but we will have some available! Water fountain available in gym as well.

On the last day of camp, we will provide snacks and a drink for the kids, as well as a certificate for completing the basketball camp!
