EPYSA Restart 2020

On July 1, the Pennsylvania Department of Health issued an order for “universal face coverings.”   The order requires all individuals to wear a face covering, in both indoor public places and in the outdoors when they are not able to consistently maintain social distancing from individuals who are not members of their household, such as on a busy sidewalk, waiting in line to enter an indoor space, or near others at any place people are congregating.

There was concern and confusion on the release of the order as it related to sports.  However, clarification was provided on July 3 which was immediately posted on our website and through social media. Available here.

Coaches, athletes and spectators must wear face coverings, unless they are outdoors and can consistently maintain social distancing of at least six feet. Athletes are not required to wear face coverings while actively engaged in workouts and competition that prevent the wearing of face coverings. Face coverings must be worn on the sidelines, when athletes are not actively playing.

This message is consistent with prior guidelines and recommendations provided by the Department of Health and included in our Restart documents.  We strongly recommend that everyone continues to comply with all other hygiene and distancing protocols including the masking order.

In addition, Governor Wolf issued an order recommending that if someone travels to a state with high COVID-19 cases, you will need to quarantine for 14 days upon return.  States nearby include Florida, North and South Carolina.
